Hi there,

A close friend of mine is thinking about moving to Kefalonia from Spain as they have had enough of the local spanish corruption and the misery the spanish 'land grab' laws bring to their local area.

They have mentioned that Kefalonia was somewhere they visited and liked very much, and since I know nothing about this greek island, I'd ask some of you well travelled folk on here to get some good/bad points if any..

Fire away!

Lovely place, but if they've had enough of local Spanish corruption Greece might not be the best place to move to...

I used to live there, my family is from there, and I have a place out there.

IMO, there is an element of 'corruption' everywhere, UK included!...I have personally never heard of any 'land grab' cases or problems like that with land/property purchases.

Give it a few weeks and you might be able to use that inheritance to buy a mansion...

I don't live there but have sailed around it and stopped at a few of the little ports on the east coast. Being a novice sailor, I don't know if this happens often but the sea was very wild between Ithaka and Kefalonia even though it appeared calm elswhere. I thought the people were charming, but then we were tourists with cash to spend. I imagine that the austerity package being planned for Greece might make it a difficult place to live for now with taxes going through the roof and presumably property values falling. Perhaps wait a couple of years for the dust to settle or at least rent there first.
