I think he will go to Sky or Greenedge, GE have seen how a big sponsor and a link to the national team have benefitted Sky and will try to recreate it down under. Most of the fast Aussies have signed up and they are riding the Scott Foil in 2012....Cav has a good history on Scott bikes.

i'm not sure how he personally can have a contract with specialized, thats between th team and the bike manufacturer not an individual rider. From his tweets its clear both parties get a lot out of the relationship. Cav gets on well with the engineers and likes how they spend so much time getting the details right. i think he is a bit of a techno-geek so the venge and the specialized r&d stuff really appeals.
Cav must think of the overall picture. He benefited from the SKY train to win the Worlds. If he goes elsewhere it will make him appear very shallow and short sighted, if not a tad ungrateful. He is need of some top class counseling at the moment. He could jeopardize his popularity in the UK if he makes the wrong move.

You are joking, surely?He benefited from the Great Britain train to win the Worlds. The fact that the overwhelming majority of the GB riders happen to ride for Sky is irrelevant. Are you seriously suggesting that on a flat course like that, Team GB should've put their efforts behind another rider just because they all ride for the same pro team when they're not riding for their countries?
As for jeopardizing his popularity in the UK, why should he care? If we're talking about the resultant sponsorship deals and the like, he's already a megastar on the continent, and the market size in the UK is tiny in comparison.
Pro cyclists have a fairly short career. They should do their absolute best for themselves and for the team they're riding for in any given race. The rest is irrelevant.

to be honest, the GB lead out wasnt great and the Sky lead outs over the last two years have been anything but special. Cav won the worlds when Millar, Froome and Wiggo hit the front and destroyed the rest for the best part of 100kms. The lead out was scuppered by Tony Martin and unfortuantely Cav couldnt get Thomas or Stannard's wheel - granted he did get Matt Goss' but his finish was another huge solo effort.
Cav knows a strong team is ideal but he also knows he has the ability to win stages without a strong lead out. He is 25 and will never be out of popularity in the UK. He has anohter five years of world class sprinting ahead of him, then he can sit back a bit. he has two choices, make a big long term move now or take a short contract and save the big one for later, unfortunately his stock is at a premium right now....
the complications around his preferred choice of bike and personal sponsirship deals through a spanner in the works though but these are all things that can be worked through or bought out.
...and i am sure he gets all the counselling he needs from Peta at the end of each day!

This is not an issue as loads of pro footballers have personal sponsorship deals with Nike yet play for Adidas sponsored teams.I always thought that the BCF was sponsored by Pinarello yet Cav was the only member of the GB team riding a non Pinarello bike (gtanted that most, if not all, ride for Sky). Is the BCF and Team GB one and the same?
