I was wondering. Much as I like my tuscan the LCD display is pants. I mean everything but the cheapest goodmans car stereo has an ELD (electroluminescent display) these days.

I wonder if these things are standard parts ? I mean you'd have though the LCD is just a standard 3x3 inch (or whatever) A by B pixel resolution display with a standard interface feeding it.

You'd have though it would be possible to get hold of a similar thing but with ELD ?

Then I might be able to read the thing when it's sunny.

so true mate, not sure though. I would have thought that TVR would have looked into this - could be wrong.

By ELD I guess you are thinking if an LCD with an ELD light source behind it. Some displays use an LED light as this is more reliable and doesn’t need the higher voltage drive of ELD. Disadvantage is to get a decent level of light from LED it will draw a fair bit of power. Most popular LCD units have a built in controller and talk a standard 4 bit language with the host CPU. If this is the system they have used then most LCD units with the same mechanical fixing would work, just connect the back light and bingo. It is possible however they may be using an LCD without a built in driver, in which it becomes a lot more complex. This is possible because I know they are using a PIC Micro, and some of these will drive an LCD directly.

no, I meant a real ELD matrix display. Like you get on the latest 200 quid sony CD players.

e.g:

www.caraudioexpert.com/productView3.asp?productID=4061

they wouldn't have been out back in 99 when the tuscan was designed.

as you say, probably not compatible, etc. If you knew a bit more about the spec though maybe we could approach ELD manfacurers, etc ?
