Is the optional Porsche Stability Management (PSM) that includes ABS,ASR,ABD (bloody hell!)worthwhile or as stupid as it sounds? The manual say's it's effect will be more noticable on the 4WD variants. Bearing in mind I'm getting the RWD Carrera, and I enjoy a bit of tyre screeching, what do you reckon?

RR, I can only speak for the Boxster, which is mid engined as opposed to rear.

I was told not to bother with it if I was ordering one from new (as it happens we got a 6 month old car without it fitted). That said the system is quite unobtrusive and is quite subtle in how it applies itself.

Don has it fitted to his Boxster, so I guess he will give you his 2 cent's worth in due course. Please bear in mind though that our dear friend also has a hard top fitted to his car in winter as well, to protect himself from the cold (bless !)

It doesn't cost much as an option. It is *very* unobtrusive in normal driving but in wet and slippery conditions prevents embarrassment nicely. Its a *much* more sophisticated system than "Traction Control" which is barely worth the bother in my view.

Having said that its the PSM that currently has my Porsche off the road as its bust.

As to the hardtop: mine does live outside in all weather and its a *lot* easier to scrape ice off the rear window if its heated and made of glass. Perhaps with the MY2003 Boxster I won't bother with it...
