Sri Lanka - do-able for a week? If so where abouts?
Discussion
Is Sri Lanka too far for a weeks holiday? If not any advice as to what hotels/resorts? We're seriously considering Mexico ATM but Sri Lanka keeps popping up on the radar but we know nothing about the place. We'll be travelling immediately after new year so hopefully this won't be monsoon season there.
It is a great time of year for the west and south coast, Hikkaduwa for surfing and backpackers or further south for upmarket boutique hotels. Galle is nice and the inland is still pretty wild especially the national parks.
I like the place and have always had fun there, mainly go for the surfing but have hired trail bikes and done a lot of exploring.
Avoid Columbo and the resorts that are close to it. the drive in a shared minibus to Gall can take up to 5 hours and is totally terrifying, near misses are routine and the drivers totally insane, the road is two lanes but often has 4 vehicles overtaking each other.

Kerala is a bit closer - Kochin or Trivandrum - still 10-11 hours. Great place. Did a week there in 2004.Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
