There are a lot of differences between a C2 or C4 and an RS. Nice as they are, neither of these cars are anywhere near true replicas so I think it's difficult to put a value on them in that context but as 993's go they look very nice to me..

That silver car has an rs splitter & wheels, it's about as much an rs as those golfs with bently wheels are continental gt's!
I viewed it when it was last for sale at cridfords, it was up for sale at jzm earlier this year then went off the radar so likely on sale or return. pm me for details before you bother to make a journey.
Yellow one looks nice though, spoke to Gary the owner a couple of times regarding the car.
These cars are nothing like a genuine rs (like my old 993 in my profile pic-it was based on a c4) but if you like the looks & can't afford the price of the real thing I think a good rep would be a pleasure to own

There can't be such a thing as a "true" replica surely? It can be a replica in so many ways which is why it is so personal.
It could all be in the looks. You could want and like a car that looks RS-ish - outside and or inside (like seats).
It could be in the "performance". Engine, box, lsd, steering, suspension.
For me it could make sense if it firstly has the essence of the driving experience of an RS and secondly has the look of one. This begins to work if the value of such a car is such that it isn't precious and can be used and abused with wanton abandon.

Spot on. That is the attraction of a rep. Even if I could afford a real RS, it would be just too precious to abuse. It could all be in the looks. You could want and like a car that looks RS-ish - outside and or inside (like seats).

well thew silver one is poor
but the Yellow One has been around a long time, must have had a lot of owners by now, I was close to buying that car once.
nothing wrong with reps, the same fun for 70k less money, so many 71 RS reps and other reps about.
Thing is to do it right, it need the whole inside doing as well so price build up.
Things have moved on with disks and suspension so adding these things to a C2s makes for a nice car
these thing's you cannot add to a RS now because people want standard 100k car.
So you end up with a RS look a like which is better then the RS :-) for 1/3 of the value and newer better bits.
Keep the basic RS wing though the RSR wing looks tat, and delete the sun roof and 99.9% of people will not know anyway.
now 964RS are so expensive I was thinking of building a 964 RS lightweight rep but better :-) but it's amazing how much it costs to do it right.

And the thing to do is not build a rep that's also too expensive to use!MTR

A rep can be done properly. Look at Steve Rances car for a good 993 build.
To get the right feel you have to use as many original components as possible, flywheel, clutch, brakes, seats, suspension parts. Thats before you even begin to start on how the car looks.
For real authenticity it costs a lot of cash.

So what would a true replica have?
ha ha. Well having spent 2 years converting my 993 race car to an exact nut and bolt recreation of a 993Club sport I have painful personal experience of the differences! Is a very long list if you want to do it properly. Unfortunately, you need to start with a 3.8 engine. Then there's the gearbox internals, diff, suspension, brake disks, calipers, correct abs pump, droplinks, anti roll bars, seam welded chassis, alli bonet, correct side glass, etc... Unfortunately, the list go's on and on. If my car didnt have an interesting race history and good provinance, I would never have considered it but one day it will be legible for historic racing and in RSR spec it's perfect to go racing in. To be honest, to do the job properly and convert a C2 to an RS, its cheaper to buy a real one.
Please do not think that I am denigrating the cars referred to, they both look very nice.
If you are going to recreate an RS then yes it takes more than just a spoiler or two.( the rear one on the silver ca isn't an RS one anyway is it??)
I've got the small aero kit on my car and if it wasn't fitted when I bought it I'd have put it on so for me it's an aesthetic thing...

When the kids are too big to fit in the back then I may make the car a little more track focused, which would necessitate some RS like modifications... But I'd NEVER stick an RS badge on the back of it....
