Tuscan Oil Light - Help
Discussion
Just got a 2nd hand Tuscan 4.0L. Its just had the engine rebuilt (new valve stem oil seals etc).
Anyway, I have been sort of running it in. The dealer said there is no real need to run it in as such but just dont hit 7000rpm foor a while. I havent taken it above 4500rpm (apart from once by mistake). All has been fine.
However tonight i noticed that the OIL warning light flashed on at about 4200rpm. Its not on at all below that. I tried again, it flashed at 4200 and stayed constant at 4400rpm again drop below that and all is fine. Clearly I shall not be taking it above that until I have spoken to the dealer.
I just wonder if anyone had any ideas? is it a faulty light or does it mean something?
Cheers
Nick

Thanks for the help.
I have just spoken to the dealer HHC. They beleive its more likely to be a faulty sensor. On the basis the oil pressure is not really dropping. I shall do the same thing again and look at the actual oil pressure reading. If its not dropping at 4200rpm, then HHC thinks is the sensor.
I think I shall just not take it above 4500rpm for the remainder of the 1000miles. It due to go back at 1000 for a tighten up.
Does anyone know what the Oil pressure should be, say at Idle, 2500 and 4000rpm ? or could you let me know what yours is so I can compare.
Thanks
Nick

HHC told me the same about my gauge twice and were wrong on both occasions. First time the pressure relief spring was failing and then failed, second time engine rebuild.
If your guage and warning light, which comes on around 7psi I'm told, are telling you the same thing get a second opinion. Oil pressure can also be measure on the laptop.
I'm told the healthiest speed six has 17psi at max temperature idle @750rpm.
Mail me offline if you want any details, sounds like I've been where you are before.

I had this.
In my case it was the oil pressure switch giving a faulty reading. A common problem.
As you rev the engine higher, the pressure should rise.
Mine tends to be (when hot) about 17psi at idle, rising to 60 ish (or more) when revved high.
But when the switch was knackered, the highest pressure it would return was about 32 ish, which was fine when idling, but when revving it the ecu expected
a higher reading and didn't get it. Hence the oil warning light came on.
This is a common fault i have had 4 sender units over the last year.
The reason the light comes on is there has to be a certain pressure as the revs rise
My advice is to change the sender unit and all will probably be ok,if not go straight to your dealer.
The unit is easy to change it lives under the air box takes about 20 minutes to change and costs £ 16
