I've often heard people say they "hate cats" but I've never heard people say the same about dogs. Just a shrug and "dont mind 'em"

But cats always attract that "hate" word, particulary from men.

Why?

I hope I did not offend you in your '5 items thread', I dont hate cats as such, just find them snobby and always had dogs smile

I'm guessing it's because cats are too independent and not as loving as a dog. Never did understand why people use the word 'hate' though, a bit strong.

Do not hate them but not keen on the way they creep around and their fur gets everywhere

You never own a cat. Cats are self employed. If they like you they stop. If they do not they leave. Cats are completely idependant they rely on no one.

That appeals to me; it does not to all dog lovers.

Dog's don't tend to use me as a scratching post.

Nor do they leave decapitated wildlife on the patio daily. It's a bloodbath in my garden. I never wanted to look into the hole left where the head has been pulled off a rabbit. Or step on the cold, wet body of a mouse.

Dogs are man's best friend. Don't get me wrong, I've met the odd cat I've found friendly and I'd never say I hate them, but I can understand why some people might take a disliking to them as a rule.

I don't hate them but it's hard not to feel anger towards them when they dig up my borders, st on the lawn and terrorise my chickens. Then there is them killing every bit of wildlife in my garden.

Apparently I'm in the wrong when I want to do something about them.

This sums it up. On the dog side, we have Greyfriars Bobby, who stayed at the grave of his master for fourteen years.

On the cat side, we have this tale, the URL says it all really.

Many dogs would chase and kill rabbits if they got the chance, though.

Because they are not strong enough to have a cat love them and require a dog which will blindly stay with them no matter how horrible they are. A cat will think "you're an a****le" and leave...??
