winscreen wipers - some assistance required

does anyone who has taken the dash out have any photos of exactly where and how the wiper mechanism is secured into the shell? I think my mechanism is worn as the blade sweep is a bit jerky and also the amount of weep varies from full screen to 2/3 of screen so I want to take the mechanism out and overhaul it during the winter.

on mine (S3) the motor is held in with a U shaped strap and all that holds the mechanism in place other than it being attached to the motor are the two nuts (octagonal) on the spindles, just under the wiper arms. No other fixings inside the car.

Sounds easy doesn't it? It is once everything else is out the way

Thanks for that but whereabouts is the motor? above the steering column or toward the centre of the car? what I want to try and do is work out how to get it out (if it can be got out) without stripping out everything to find/remove it - oh and spend as little time as possible with the blood running to my head and my feet on the parcel shelf

On the V8S the motor was above the glovebox but very high up in the dash tucked right over in the top corner IIRC.

Yep thats spot on now if I remember correctly once the glove box is removed then you can access the motor and it is retained by a 'U' shaped strap just two bolts I think. The wheel boxes are held by the big nut etc on wiper spindle. When thay are undone just push down into body and thread the complete mechanism out via the passenger footwell. There might be diamonish shaped rubber mats between the wheel boxes and the body tub.
