Considering a MR2 2ZZ-conversion, input needed
Discussion
Hello from Norway. Im considering buying a MR2 MK3 roadster, and Ive come across one with the conversion alreasdy being done, 2ZZ engine and the 6-speed Celica gearbox fitted.
However, the seller told me the following about the car:
"The bad things": Hand brake does not work. Both rear brake calipers must be replaced or the handbrake must be overhauled. There is a little noise coming from the gearbox when you break using the gearbox. The sound appeared after I used the wrong gear oil when refilling it. The oil was quickly changed again, but the sound has been there ever since. The box shifts as it should, and I have not had any problems the three years I have used it.
The orginal engine ( uses oil) and 5-speed gearbox ( mint ) comes with the car..
What you reckon? Walk-away, or something that can be fixed?
Regards!

Nope, no mail from yourself i'm afraid.
As mentioned, if box goes bang, get it replaced. If you can live with the noise and it operates fine, why not?
Brakes are common as muck for seizing and the handbrake cables too but could just be that they haven't been re-set correctly, they need to be done in a certain order or they are always in the off position as it were.
It's a nice swap so as long as it drives ok and it's suitably cheap for the issues, in like Flynn

Ah, strange. Perhaps the mailing system here on PH is a bit iffy..
Well the thing is that he told me the gearbox has been working fine for 3 years now aside from the little crunchy sound, do you really need to replace the whole thing or could it be a smaller fix?
The old original 5-speed comes with the car though, as an alternative should a new gearbox need to be sourced? :P
