Stupid question time, can you fit the hard top over the tonneau cover? Hardtopp is on for winter now & want to make the rear shelf look a bit tidier.

I've never tried it but I would suspect not as the tonneau clips over the back. Best thing to do is give it a try. Don't plan on putting my hard top on just yet to give you the verdict!

Poor form having it on already IMO.

A mate just turned up so I gave it a go, answer is no frown

The rear lip of the cover sits where the back of the lid wants to be. I have left the cover tucked in on the rear shelf though, its somewhere to keep it over winter & will stop me scratching the rear screen.

I have a soft child's toy to put under the glass when it's down. Simple, cheap and something to talk about when people get in the car, wink

In regards to the hard top - I only just started turning on the heater when driving topless these days, and I'm in Norway, wink

TBH I prefer the 5 with the hard top, if I had a choice I'd have a coupe 5 over a soft top. Didn't get the 5 because it was a soft top

He was saying if he had the choice, i.e. he doesn't because they didn't make any.

Apart from a Mk2 Coupe, which was only JDM I believe and not many of them.

I probably should know this, I guess it means only in Japan but what does JDM stand for?

I think I would take my 5 to a coachbuilders and get it made into a liftback coupe if I had the cash, there are a few conversions about, some good, some bad. I do like the mk2 coupe concept but I need my pop up lights smile

I did this one winter. I put on the tonneau before I put on the hard top, but I folded it round so that it wouldn't get in the way of the hard top itself. I kept it like that for that winter but never did it again (far from ideal), I just lay a block towel over the folded soft top.

The father of a friend of mine always took the soft top off the car before putting the hard top on for the winter. It was a big job to do twice a year but he seemed to think it worth it.
