news photodesk - website question for c6Mb files

In the past I have dealt with agencies to get my images in front of news photodesks but now am thinking of going the direct route having aquired the appropriate email addresses of the news or photodesks of newspapers.
Ideally what i would like to do is to show on my website (hidden from the public) a gallery of images and if the photo editor likes one they can then download the full size file of say 5-7Mb.
With my existing webpublishing or gallery creator the image behind the thumbnail is only about 120kb
as most publishing/gallery creators are designed to compress file sizes for ease of ultimate viewing
Any idea how I can go about this?

Piece of cake for a web developer to put something together for you. It'll cost though.

I wasn't promoting my skills mate, too busy to take stuff on. Using something like modx (free, open source cms), this allows you to set up password protected sections where specific users can see only their section. Then a simple gallery would be siffice. The advantage of something like this is you can manage everything yourself, including adding new "members" who can log in. The members section will just be part of your site, good for keeping "in brand".

What's your current site so I can take a quick look?
