There was a thread which I can't find now on the old P&P archive on good pubs off the A303

I tried two that were recommended - the Red lion at Babcary, and the Beckford arms in Fonthill gifford. Both were brilliant - I will never stop at a little chef again!

I post here only to
a) say thanks to PH - would never have found them other wise
b) - so that others may find them and enjoy the excellent food and service.
c) see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Cheers

Looking forward to trying the Beckford Arms when I am next home. The Peat Spade at Leckford is worth a try as well.

The Beckford Arms were prosecuted by Trading Standards a few years back for selling food as organic when is wasn't.

Then last year, it caught fire & was extensively damaged.

I stayed there in 2007 & found it a great place.

When I used the A303 regularly we used to stop for lunch at the Podimore Inn, between the A303 and the Fleet Air Arm Museum.
Very cosy, good food & drink, but it has been a few years. Worth a look as it's only moments off the main road, especially if travelling West.

Sticks.

I stayed here a few years back and the food was fine http://www.boisdale.co.uk/lamb-at-hindon/

Also been a while since I was here, but food looked good and there's an oustanding view on a fine day. @ 10mns from 303 http://www.foxandhounds-eastknoyle.co.uk/page/how_...

Recently stayed here, also @ 10 mins away. Not had lunch so not sure what's available, but evening food was very good. Good place to stay too, very friendly. http://www.coppleridge.com/

Different ownership then (although it was still good). Fire was last year and place is now reopened and still a great place to go.
