Let's bring back handicap racing - no - not racing for the physically challenged - races where the grid is in reverse order.

Hence a clapped out Ford Focus has as good a chance as a Viper - if the handicapper has done his/her homework.

Overtaking, lapping, consistently fast and furious racing - hell, it could even make F1 exciting again!

I remember watching a great race at brands a few years ago. There was a Alfa33 who manged to hold up a Ferrari 328 for the whole 15 lap race. Great fun to watch, Alfa 33 was being driven VERY well

Try short oval racing - stock cars etc. Bangers are always good for a laugh

Oh, I failed to mention that I drove a 33 at the time... it made the race even more fun.

Handicap racing is always good when your the spectator but when you're out on the track, it's quite dangerous.

I was talking to a friend the other day about reversing the grid order for F1, so that whoever is fastest starts at the rear, but to give people incentive to start at the back, you get 5 championship points for 20th position (pole), then 4, 3, 2 and 1 points for positions 19t to 16th.

We both decided it was a stupid idea.

Surely everyone would try and qualify extremely bady just so they can start from the back though?

I think that's why there was a suggestion of awarding championship points for the fastest times.

Plus, I guess they'd need to reinstate the 107% rule...

The Birkett is a great race.

In fact in 2000 we won class C (Production based saloons) with a team from Group One Touring Cars.

Grp1 is for pre'83 saloons and so we entered a team of 1600cc old-skool hot hatches. Myself in a Sunbeam Ti, another Sunbeam, a mk1 Fiesta XR2 and a mk1 Golf GTi.

Due to the handicapping we succesfully competed against everything from Ferraris to chain drive Fraser Nashes.
