Using an oven only (no microwave) what is the best way of pre-cooking sausages and reheating them, whilst keeping them at their best?

Cook them fully and reheat them in foil?

Cook them and reheat on an open tray?

Part cook them and finish them on the day?

Other?

I want them to be succulent like freshly cooked, not hard on the outside like those from the hot meat counter of a budget supermarket.

Many thanks

reheat in foil.

always cook meat through if you plan to reheat [bacteria]

best method is to reheat low n slow for moisture retention, but it'd be quicker cooking bangers from scratch.

i did write more the first 4 times i tried posting this, fking Ph hamsters need shooting.

you dont have a hob? the bloke that runs the sausage and mash place near me poaches them first and then browns them before serving- always produces suculent sausages. may not be much help if you only have an oven though.

Given they only take c40 minutes to cook from scratch (on 150c without piercing) and would probably requrie 20 minutes reheating, is the aggro worth the 20minute saving in time?

Poach in beer + bayleaf + a few peppercorns.

The problem is that I have promised the Manks children sausage sandwiches for breakfast. Mrs Manks glared at me and enquired how I was going to find the time to cook the sausages, that there was no chance whatsoever of her doing it, that she needs to load Johnny's harpsichord into the car and Tabitha is showing her Boa Constrictor at assembly tomorrow etc etc etc.

I am generally quite rushed in the morning too, so I am trying to determine the quickest method of serving succulent sausage sarnies.

Yes I have a hob of sorts, we have an Aga so we have one plate that is hotter than the sun and another that will fry an egg in about 5 minutes.

Are we thinking then that just cooking the bangers in the morning is the way to go?

Yep. Use your aga plate. Brown them, slice them in half and cook the insides. 15mins tops.

Just bung them in the oven for 35 mins while you get showered and dressed. You don't need to touch them, though I normally try to give the pan a shake at the halfway stage.

Give them hotdogs and pretend you are on a package holiday.

What temp, open tray or covered in foil ? Do I need to prick them before putting them in ?

I was told to never prick a sausage.

I use 190C (fan oven), open tray, no pricking. It's very easy.

Woooah, poached sausages?

scratchchin That's interesting.

I always just roast them, low and slow, around 160 degrees for 45 minutes or so. No reason why you couldn't do them at a higher temp for shorter time though, might dry out a bit though.

Use good sausages though! Go see your local butcher wink

Poaching works really well for BBQ sausages, and the Italians often poach sausages first before quickly frying.

Obviously just bunging them in the Aga with a bit of oil and water and leavings whilst you have a shower is the easiest option in this case smile
