The old man has fallen ill and is supposed to be flying out to Europe tomorrow.

His first name is my middle name, will I be able to blag it tomorrow and blame my secretary? Name change is £100!

I think the fact they've got the opportunity to make £100 for nothing is the unfortunate clue here

I think you'll find it's the CAA who are strict, not the airline.

I flew with them last year, passport says Tom, ticket says Thomas. I was flapping a bit but they let me on

Don't you also have to register your passport details online in advance as well?... I know BMI baby charge you if you haven't done so within x hours of departure

I think that if you have made a 'mistake' with the name on the booking you can call them and change it for free, but you can't change passenger without a hideous charge...

Don't they require a passport number to book?

Got a first and middle name in the wrong order recently - called them and told them and they were fine. Cost of about a minute on a premium rate number.

I don't remember anyone checking at the airport either, but I suggest calling them first.

for what it is worth, we changed the name on the ticket.

Not that I will be flying them again. I actually couldn't understand a single member of staff, or didn't hear a please or see a smile.

I heard one thank you as I left the plane at Stansted late last night.

I was tweeting my thoughts:

Has pursuit of ultra low cost flying come at cost of customer service? Do passengers care? #travel #ryanair #choice #customerservice

Airlines forget flyers have choice about airlines when traveling. When does enjoyment outweigh savings of ultra low cost #travel? #ryanair

Has Pressures on costs from top down affected staff attitudes. Not one smile or 'please' in 2 hours #travel #ryanair #pleasesmile #custserv

Use of non-English staff only alienates and loses egagement of domestic passengers when only one in 10 words is understood #travel #ryanair

Another #ryanair flight. Another crew member who I cannot understand. Is it just me? #travel

What happened to slim blonde female cabin crew. Flght with Ryan air last month majority of crew were eastern European and were 5th 6" anyway you wanted to measure them, given a choic prefer queasy jet staff tend to be a bit happier

I can't say I'm that bothered about the cabin crew. You're only on for a couple of hours anyway. If you play the system and book flights well in advance with few extras then it is cheap transport, and I'd rather they spent their income on pilot training and aircraft maintenance than the stewardesses!!

on an easyjet flight to faro last month the pilot appeared to spend more time in the cabin than on the flight desk, very amusing chap, made the entire plane clap when a few late passengers turned up that had delayed the flight, top man, most of the passengerews took it in good humour, however one had the raging blaming everyone and his dog, until someone pointed out that the other 200 passengers managed to get aboard on time

I checked in online and no-one requested both documents at the same time to make sure the two matched.

I am known by my middle name and books tickets using that, not my first name. I've never had a problem and I take about 40 flights a year.

As for RyanAir, it's all about cost. People fly with them because they are cheap and, usually, on time. So it's not a great experience, but they've proved that for their customer base it doesn't matter so long as they are cheap.

I thought you were "officially" (not sure by which officials!) allowed a couple of letters in error to allow for typos?

Virgin do a weird thing of merging your first and middle names which gave me a fright first time I saw it, but it's quite mormal apparently.
