Photographing Fireworks

I'm going to a huge firework display tonight and they are also running a photography competition of the display. I've never tried photographing fireworks before and although I know what settings to use and what equipment, I wondered if anyone had any other less known tips.

A tripod, a cable release, bulb setting, f16, ISO100 are my settings for fireworks, I use the cable release to open and shut the shutter, if there are a lot of bright fireworks going off I'll use shorter exposures, for smaller fireworks longer exposures.

This for example was 9 seconds at f16, I was limited because of the fairground ride at the bottom which would blow out if I went too long.

Thanks Mark. Yeah they are the exact settings I had in my mind. My only worry is that there is no opportunity to get a high vantage point. So I am going to take a gorilla pod and have it looking up at the sky from the floor. If I don't reply in this thread again, it went terribly
