hehe

I think they might be... check the lancer register, they have a review... the main complaint seems to be the clutch I think...

AUIU apart fromt the perceived kudos of owning an FQ400, you're better off tuning an FQ3xx as you get a more drivable car.

Keith Michaels, But the FQ400 was really not a high point in the evo range

Mod a FQ3x or get a mint unmolested FQ360

Go for it, rare cars and top of the range Evo 8 model. Will hold its value well as well.

The main point of getting an FQ-400 for me would be to swap the turbo, clutch and remap it to around 500 bhp.

They're the only "standard" Evo to have come with a forged engine (i.e. uprated engine internals) so can make a simply huge amount of power, but oddly not with the standard turbo and the FQ-400 clutch is a bit of a pig in traffic by all accounts too.

If you're not going to do the above, just get a IX FQ-360 as it will be younger, around the same price and performance as the standard VIII FQ-400, but will be nicer to drive (less lag, better clutch).

You lost fortunes? How? confused

They're a £30k car new, what did you pay for it, sell it for and how long did you keep it?

It seems to me that some people expect super car performance with Ford Fiesta running costs/depreciation when bang for buck, the Evo is about as good as it gets.

So just like modding any performance car then? It's always a loss maker.

I'm just put off the 400 by the poor flexibility of the OEM turbo. All well and good if you're happy stirring the box all teh time, but I'd rather have the 400hp but from a more accessible torque curve with a better aftermarket turbo.

an fq360 is plenty quick enough too and better to drive.

Yahuh.

Looking at the kind of response and low end torque available to EVO owners from the aftermarket turbos in the 400hp area an FQ400 really doesn't strike me as a fun car to drive.

And the 8s are the ugliest, IMO, of all the later cars. Personally I would go for either a VII with the mods done that you would do yourself and save yourself a fortune, or get a standard-ish IX and get the benefit of the MIVEC head, and other improvements, and importantly a younger car.

VIIs and VIIIs are getting into AYC failure territory now - I speak from painful personal experience here - and it's not as easy a fix as the MLR would have you believe.

That said, if you've owned one - albeit a VI - before, why would you want another one? Try someone thing new.

There's nothing to touch a well looked after Evo, making decent power, for entertainment versus value for money, and God knows, I've tried some stuff in the last few years......I love Evos, but I wouldn't have a 400 for various reasons, many of them already stated above.

The AYC is an unfortunate low point, but generally they're extremely reliable.
