As the title suggets, its wedding bells next year!! (June).

Thinking of ideas for honeymoon and we've both decided we want to go to New York for 3/4nights then onwards from there. Any ideas where? SWMBO isn't keen on Antigua, Bahamas etc unless I find a super hotel. Mexico is an idea? Is it safe? Nice?

My idea is New York, back to London, then off to Tuscany or Sardinia for 10 days of luxury!!

Any ideas guys, throw some at me, inc recommendations!!

Cheers

Hawaii would have been my suggestion (not that I have been), but it's more than a short hop from NY though. Does it have to be hot hot? or just pleasant? What about Canada for some summer scenery...?

Another brain wave - maybe try to get on a cruise back from NY to Southampton or the med' but via the Azores?

Cruises are out but thanks.

Hawaii is too far I think, especially for 1 week only.

Is California not built up? Never really looked into it as looking for a relaxing 7 days, maybe 10(price dependant) after 4 nights in New York

California is very big. Lots of scenery on the coast between San Francisco and LA or at Yosemite/Death Valley etc. Depends what you want to do, it is a long way to go for a week though.

A long way from UK or New York as thats where we will be flying from. We'd like a relaxing week as expecting New York to be non stop!!

We were knackered after our wedding, but luckily had 9 nights in Antigua at a Sandals resort, (all inclusive, no kids,) followed by 9 nights road tripping around New England.

Not cheap, but very good. I'd recommend the relaxing bit first, you'll need it.

I know you ruled out Hawaii because of the distance but I think going somewhere like that where you might never go again is a great thing to do for a honeymoon.

We went to Bora Bora for ours which is a similar distance (admittedly for more than a week)......we'll never go again now we have kids as it's too far and too expensive to take kids too so very glad we did it while we could!

North America is stunning so it's really down to what your interests are....sitting on a beach somewhere like Sanibel and Captiva which are two small islands in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida would take a lot of beating if that's your bag. Never been to the likes of Martha's Vinyard but that is supposed to be very nice.

California is huge, bigger that most countries. Not quite double the size of the UK. It's awesome as a holiday destination. I think it's hard to beat having such varied/contrasting/dramatic scenery in a concentrated area, Alpine lakes, moutntains, deserts, natural wonders and so on.

Too far for a week though IMO. I don't think it makes much sense to go all the way to NY only to get back and do something else in Europe. Folk seem to go one or two ways for a honeymoon, either a total chill out at an appropriate location to get over a hectic time of wedding planning, or see it as the last chance to do something that will be difficult or impossible once they have kids.

We're doing the latter next year. 4 nts Cape Town 2 week driving holiday, 6 nt safari, then a week in Mauritius. Includes everything we like in a holiday basically.

There is a flight from NY (Newark) direct to Hawaii on Continental which takes 11 hours. Not really a short hop. But, if you do go try the Four Seasons on Maui as it was the best hotel I have stayed in. Can't explain why but it was. Im currently sat in the Four Seasons Palm Beach and it has all the same ingredients but is not a patch in Hawaii.

If you are doing NY you can jump on a cruise on the Hudson river and go to the Caribean. Can't get easier than that. I'm just about to go to St Thomas so can report back later today. I live in the NY area so flew down to Palm Beach and will fly from Miami to St Thomas on cheap flights.

If you want a road trip get a car and go to Boston then Montreal.

Surly any self respecting PH will plan a trip to Le Mans in June smile

We went to an all inclusive resort an hour or so out of Cancun for our honeymoon. Very relaxing (no kids etc), 7-10 days is an ideal amount of time there, as there wasn't much to do out of the resort. The only day trip we did was to Chichen iza.

Big Sur - simply stunning... Someone posted pics of a hotel on here a while back which was set into the cliffs on the coast, it looked absolutely wonderful.

That said, I'd go to barbados again in a heartbeat, wonderful place and probably nearer than the west coast from NYC.
