How to get more HP without too much hassel ?
Discussion
I decided to make some engine upgrades to my S2 but
I dont want to have the engine modified so I am
wondering which parts needs to be upgraded to gain a few more HP, not many so I dont have
to modify the gearbox.
Has someone tried something similar before?
What parts would you recommend?
The upgrades are gonna be done in Spain, so if you could be very specific I'l lappreciate it
so I can try to order them online.
Thanks in advance.

It was a long time ago but I had a 1600 Vauxhall (Opel) Astra rolling road tuned - you may laugh but they changed jets in the carb and it was a different car - more economical and loads more power. It was worth every penny.
You really need someone who knows what they are doing - are there any motorsport type garages over there?

Only the exhaust
I'd have thought getting the induction side sorted would have reaped more benefits ?
Getting back to our friends original question I'd agree with the rolling road set up, make sure you have all the horses you should have before looking for more.
Depending on the engines mileage and general condition a good old fashioned "de-coke" and maybe a set of rings might not go a miss ?

Wow guys, you really know a lot about this stuff.
Im not sure if there are this kind of companies that do the tune ups,at least for TVRs. I think that there is only another one in Spain but Im pretty sure I could check with some specialized car shops that could give me a hand or do it themselfs. I have a friend that is mechanic and probably he knows something about it as well. He gave me a hand with my old Peugeout 205 GTI when the timing belt broke down and all valves got smashed.
high performance air filters do help also?
What is that old fashioned "de-coke" thing? My engine has 120k miles on the clock. But has a very good service history and lots of receipts with all sutff that was done in the car. Also a new Diff around 8 months ago.

The standard air filter is a "high performance" (ie low restriction) foam filter, although if yours is the original there is a good chance the foam is perished and crumbly (on the inside) and needs replacing? What is that old fashioned "de-coke" thing?
A de-coke is basically remove cylinder heads, take all the valves out, remove all the carbon and deposits that have built up over the last 20 years and 120,000 miles, grind the valves in so they seal 100% into the head and put it all back together again.
The problem is that typical breathing modifications are already so. The exhaust system are pretty much as good they can be, so as the induction.
Colder air into the induction could be help.
A camshaft will change the engine straight away, and coupled with head modifications will give a noticeable top end torque increase which is where you want it.
The heads are cast iron so a right pain to port match up to the inlet/exhaust manifolds.
You can get a 'piggy back ECU' fitted to supplement a remap.

Car was serviced recently and all filters replaced so in that way I think Im good.
I will do a the " de-coke " once I arrive in Spain next week and will go for the tune up road after this has been done. Then probably I will replace camshaft for newer one.
Where can I order a new camshaft ?

haha, good one. Saw them on TV a few times though xDThanks guys for all links. I'm suprised that camshafts are quite cheap.
What state is the overall engine in? It is probably not a good investment to spend time and money on the top end if the bearings are through to the backing and the timing chain is rattling loose.
A leakdown test will tell you how well the valves and rings are sealing before you look into rebuilding the heads. Decoking is far less important these days since engines don't tend to burn as much oil and the fuel burns cleaner. I would not normally expect to decoke an engine in between major rebuilds. If it has got in such a state that it needs it, it's probably because there's some other problem which needs fixing.

I took the car for a full check last week and everything seems fine, no oil leaks from engine. The car doesnt burn oil at all, smoke from exhaust is clean, no white or black smoke at any time, not even on cold start, so I think that general state of engine is good.
I didnt chec the timing chain but I think it should be in good shape. Car response is good on acceleration and keeps going to full revs no prob but when I bought it I was expencting something more powerfull xD,although is good enoght for a car its age but that's the main reason why I want a few more HP.
As you said, GreenV8S, I think I will also check all that properly before getting involved in any major rebuild.
