Heading to Scotland for a few days this week, and it's all planned out except for our penultimate stop.

Could anyone suggest anywhere to stop off between Kyle of Lochalsh and London?

York is nice. Seems fairly in the middle as well.

Somewhere in the Lake District ?

People I know speak good things about Tebay services, with the hotel. Good mid-point.

York is East coast, From KofL you'll be on the M74 West side....

I quite liked Carlisle the other day when I was doing a similar trip, or if you have more time, the East side of the Lake District.

Agree that York is lovely but I'd head a bit further north than that. I would assume that you're heading up the West Coast to Kyle (not an attractive town at all but a great drive up from Loch Lomond). Think I'd aim for somewhere like Lancaster or thereabouts.

If you can manage to Penrith, The North Lakes Hotel is rather comfy and has a nice restaurant (spa for the good lady as well).

Dougie.

if you fancy a different but similar mileage route back try going east from Spean Bridge to Dalwhinney and south via Pitlochry, Perth and then either Edinburgh and the A1 or Glasgow and the M6.
