London to Rockingham - A1 or M1?

Can anyone suggest which would be better for getting to Rockingham (near Corby) from the south east - A1 or M1? Not been up either recently, so no idea about the current state of roadworks etc.

I'm in Uppingham, approx 6 miles north of Rockingham. I've got family the London side of Watford so know the journey. If I were you I'd go A1 & A14

M11 then A14 or A1 depending how far east you are.
M1 has loads of roadworks at the minute.
