Saw this British film in the shops, so went off and rented it to see what it was like.

It's about a British solider who comes home and ends up taking on a local gang, but somehow in the middle gets involved with some kind of intelligence gathering group.
I say 'somehow', because it seemed to me that nothing in the film was explained - things were happening and leaving the viewer at a loss as to why the main character was getting involved.
The main character clearly has some issues stemming from his time in the Army, but they are only portrayed by a couple of scenes of him punching a wall, and the cliched 'standing on a rooftop at night whilst military radio chatter plays in the background'.
It would have been nice to get some character development.
That said, it's nice to see a gritty film set in England, to see the cars, shops and buildings we know, as we're force-fed Hollywood these days; and there's a good gun fight at the end.
6/10 from me - could have been much better.

I posted about this film in the good films thread. I thought it was pretty decent. I didn't think there was much that required extra explanation, personally. It very much had a Shane Meadows feel about it, (and the lead actor was the chap who played Paddy Consadine's younger brother in 'Dead Mans Shoes'.

Ahh, apologies if it's already been talked about, I'm still in my Sunday morning haze!
The main actor is a good guy, Dead Man's Shoes is an excellent film, saw him in the movie Wilderness too.
IMO I wanted to know who 'they' were, I don't recall that being explained.
They were people who were trying to kick off "terror" to give people something to be scared of, as that is what is needed to keep the powerful in power. At least that was what whatshisname said before he you know, got done, by his car.The main actor is a good guy, Dead Man's Shoes is an excellent film, saw him in the movie Wilderness too.

I remember him saying that now. It explains their motives, but are they just some goons doing it for a laugh, or from some government group?
I'm splitting hairs about it really though, I guess not everything needs an explanation, I should just take the film at face value!
I think the idea is that you don't know if they are just a group paid to keep powerful folks in power, or whether it is actually a government thing. I'm splitting hairs about it really though, I guess not everything needs an explanation, I should just take the film at face value!
