Lynch in a Ginetta
Ex GT racer makes guest appearance in Ginetta Championship
As the closing date nears for Dunlop’s search for a racing star, celebrity driver Shane Lynch has taken the official ‘Race Academy’ car for a high-octane spin.
The ex Boyzone star came fresh from his victory on Channel Four’s ‘The Games’ to compete in the Ginetta championship at Thruxton. He used the same car in the same championship that the Dunlop Race Academy winner will compete in later this year.
Shane finished eighth after a convincing battle that saw him move up to fourth at one point. His passion for motor racing earned him two victories in the 2003 British GT Championship for Le Mans style prototypes He is still to find a full time drive for 2004.
Dunlop is looking for seven regional finalists to enter its Race Academy and has already received thousands of entries from budding track stars. The lucky winner will get an opportunity to race in the Dunlop Driver’s Cup and take Shane’s place in the Dunlop customised Ginetta G20 sports racing car, against experienced drivers.
Following this they will pick up a club class flight to Monaco for a two-night stay in the Columbus Hotel (owned by McLaren Formula One driver David Coulthard). It will be luxury all the way with helicopter transfers, bespoke tailored suits, Louis Vuitton travel bags, a new Breitling watch and many more celebrity trappings.
The Dunlop Race Academy will commence in the summer when the seven regional finalists will be put through their paces at one of the UK’s most famous racing schools, the Gold Track Driving Club.
There is still time for you to make it into the Race Academy this summer visit www.dunloptyres.co.uk and apply online.

pablo said:Problem that he had was that he was always going to be high profile, even with his L-plates on. The transition from pop to motor racing hasn't alwaus been a smooth one either (Andrew Ridgely anyone ).
i like lynch. i will be the first to hold my hand up and say i was fairly rude about his early racing exploits but his performances in the GT TVR with Piers Johnson last year were awesome.
However, he started with a pretty competitive team in the Ginettas and, even though prone to fairly regular first corner incidents, was never slow.
Now I think that he really enjoys his status. He was nice as pie to everyone in the Padock at Thruxton (despite having to do the pop star thing and go for a lie down between practice and race) - then when he got in the car, just went for it.

Amy Chambers will be featured in the Formula Woman series starting on 11th July on ITV.
Was that post just put on there for no apparant reason James?
I don't see what it has to do with Shane Lynch in a Ginetta?!
This year there are two guest cars. One is sponsored by Dunlop and the other by Gran Tourismo GT4. There is a rumour Sir Stirling Moss may be in one of the cars soon.
Hope this helps.

jamesc said:Don't know where you heard that James. Sir Stirling Moss would indeed be a fantastic coup for Ginetta, at say, the round of the British GT championship. The celebrity cars have traditionally been numbered 20 and 27 (the two main Ginetta products) - however, the Dunlop car is this year number 7 (which may also have a connection to a certain British race legend) .
