Turbo Trainers?

I'm looking for a turbo trainer as a gift, around the £100 mark.

I have seen a nice one at Decathlon, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me?

Are they any good at that price? Should I look elsewhere?

I'd probably (and did) spend a bit more than that. It's all about how 'fluid' the interaction is when you're on the bike. Cheaper ones are more likely to be jerky, which is a pain as you don't get a smooth pedal stroke. You don't really want one that uses the rear tyre as it wears them down so you'll need to spend a bit more and look for one that uses the wheel rim instead.

...are the most popular ones. I disagree about trainers that use the rim: the vast majority are driven by the rear tyre. Tyre wear isn't an issue if you get a dedicated turbo training tyre, or just run it on any old junk you can pick up.

Ive just got myself one of these this week, thought I'd bought the blue one but got the white one delivered (i paid the price of the blue one anyway!), looks a good bit of kit but as the weathers been good since ive had it ive not tried it out yet!

something like the tacx sirius t1435 (circa £130) would be ideal, they get good reviews from the various magazines and users, make sure you also get something from www.thesufferfest.com too to make sure that you are actually spending some worthwhile time on it.

Well it was a success!

I have only spent about 3 hours on it, but its quiet and very stable.

I can recommend it, I'm going to get one for myself now.
