I need to take the drivers seat out as it is jammed in the forward position.

I'm guessing that something has fallen in to the rail, possibly from inside the seat, the as the back has started to move and wobble about.

I presume it is just 4 bolts through the floor that holds the seat in place.

Cheers,

Iain

Yep two through the central chassis member and two through the body. Had mine out to paint the handle as it had rusted from the water ingress

You might have to wedge the bolts from the top, they might start to twist once you start loosening the nuts under the car.

Cut the bolts from underneath - its far far easier and quicker and new bolts are pennies.

An angle grinder for the ones which have enough access and a dremel with a cut off disk for the ones that are tucked into a depression in the floorpan. When you replace them use a plain nut and a lock nut rather than a nylock. That way undoing them in future is simple.

Sorry to barge in but rather than start another seat-based thread I was wondering if anything can be done to make the passenger seat go further back than normal?
My OH has looooooong legs and also finds sitting so far forward a bit claustrophobic!

Short of drilling new mounting holes in the floor and blocking up the existing ones I don't believe so.

Hi Iain,

I've done mine loadsa times for access under the steering wheel.

Mine came out with WD40, overnight wait then a medium-sized flat-blade screw driver pushed in the runner slot with the left hand and the relevant ring (?!) applied to the nut.

If you know someone, I would advise getting the bolts spot welded whilst the mechanism is out. Can't remember if you've got the "Series II" seats but ,if they are, then the Rails come off after the 4 bolts, under the removable, bottom seat pannel, have been removed.

Bit of a thread resurrection here, I’m starting a body-off on my cerb and need to get the seats out, two of the nuts on the driver seat came off fine, two of them the bolts are turning free.

Annoyingly my drivers seat won’t slide forward or back - is this a common thing? Could just be something stuck (the handle doesn’t move as far as the passenger one does).

Any suggestions before I just cut the nuts off?

Cheers

When refitting the seats be aware that the rails can deform if the nuts are over-tightened, preventing the seat from moving

Probably why nylocs are preferred

Use a large flat blade screwdriver to wedge the bolt heads against the seat rails, then you can undo the nuts easily.

When putting them back, I used new Stainless bolts etc, and I really struggled with the carpets not compressing enough to get the nuts on. I used twice as long bolts to fix the seat down, then took them out one by one and put the right length in.

Be aware, if you've got the early seats they are really heavy

Thanks, that’s really helpful. Will give it a go with the screwdriver, might be tricky to get the head of the bolt since the damn seat won’t move though irked

banghead

The biggest problem is with the rear, two bolts, where there's very little room to get the screwdriver down between the rear of the seat and the rear seats.
The front bolts are a PoP in cimparison laugh

Can you not get a grinder and slitting disc to the nuts on the underside? I assume you'll be replacing the fixings anyway, why wouldn't you. I bolted the bolts to the rail along with some spacers to the front pair to raise the front of the seat up before refitting them. They then sit on quality (ie a decent thickness) penny / repair washers with matching washers on the outside. This holds the bolts in place so you can just tighten them from the underside with needing to hold them internally too.

I did this on the S's and Wedge.
