First impressions from the first 3 hours I have played it tonight?
Fun
It's another console port though and it shows in places.
There are loads of quests already, and playing the throwing weapon guy so far I have gotten quite a few weapons from paddles to cleavers, throwing a paddle and knocking a zombie off its feet is endless fun
There is crafting and repair to weapons, which seem to damage too quickly even when they are expensive clubs etc ... You can make your own weapons with blueprints which is quite cool.
Best part so far was taking on a big thug at the lifeguard station, you can hit them in specific places to do damage. So you can break his arms and he flails them around at you
and taking a paddle to someones head has an inevitable result.
Worst part is searching cases/lockers etc for loot, its a bit crap really
Overall 7/10 so far as graphics already look dated on the PC which is due to the consoleyness of it all.
Co-play seems like it would make this game awesome though.

This is a bit disappointing considering the first trailer that was released for it with the little girl in the hotel.
It's nothing like the trailer implied really is it.
Dark, moving, atmospheric.....no....no it isn't.It's nothing like the trailer implied really is it.
Running around killing thousands of zombs with stupid unrealistic weapons....disappointed.

Best comparison I can think of is a lightweight oblivion with zombies and a beach setting. It's nothing like the trailer implied really is it.
The trailer was brilliant and it does feel like it was a for a different game.
Yes there are dark parts but you have a torch lol and I really think they have missed a trick by not adding some "s
t your pants" set pieces
There was a chance here to create quite a scary game but it seems they have opted for a light hearted approach.I was running on the beach last night and was watching every bush for a "crawler" (I read world war Z) and it would have been a perfect place to have them, under the bushes etc but nopes every Z I have come across has been fully functional so they can stand and come after you etc... I want crawlers
or even the ability to create crawlers by hacking off their legs
One other thing, I want is a swarm of zombies, yes they are easy to kill etc but if there was a swarm of 20-30 all around you at once (like they do in the real movies hehe) no matter how good you are you will get taken down by the swarm, your only option is to run hehe
Graphically (I am running it at max on my machine) it does look like its a year or two behind the curve (especially after seeing BF3 stuff) the cut scenes are all using the game engine so are okish. Some of the Z effects are cool with damage etc showing well (broken ribs sticking out etc..)
One nice touch I thought was the radio's lying around playing messages which will become important later on in the game, and I think the game world will be huge as you proceed through the main storyline. I do hope it does have a lot of replay value.
Still give it a 7/10

I'm liking the look of this, I'm watching Simon and Lewis play it on Youtube (Yogscast) and it looks pretty fun, plenty of co op if you like that sort of thing, lots of exploring and looting, seems like quite an effective time sponge!
Simon and Lewis are great aren't they

Yeah they are, I only found them through minecraft as tbh I thought the idea of watching someone else play games on youtube was a bit sad! I'm now restlessly checking youtube for their next installment of dead island, I just can't get enough of their banter!
The colourful text that says "Walker Lvl 1" and "XP25!!"" that pops up really adds to the atmosphere of the game. I know when I'm out and about in real life people have these tags floating above their head in 60s Batman "KAPOW" style.
It's a bit disappointing. Bored already of collecting things, the zombies don't really behave like zombies and the weapons don't have a huge effect against them. Like someone else said, you should be able to hack off legs and have them crawl after you. The best you get is if you're lucky you'll take an arm off.
