Anyone watch this? I thought it was excellent. Nighy, Gambon and Fiennes on top form, really well produced, nice sedate involving pace, good story, thoroughly entertaining! I hadn't seen any publicity for it mind, only caught it by chance at the end of DD on BBC2 tonight.

If it's available on iPlayer, I highly recommend investing some of your time in it thumbup

Brilliant.

Finally something intelligent from the BBC, rather than the usual jazzed up rubbish.

Totally unbelievable though. As if the government would play politics with the country's security! It is laughable. And name one politican who would abandon his or her princples just for the position of deputy PM. I mean, as if.

Some excellent acting, a nicely convoluted storyline and something to think about. I enjoyed it.

Thought it was excellent and very accurately portrayed. Not sure about the assertion made at the end that the Saab was a much nicer car than the old 205 GTi that the female lead drove. Might actually be worth more!

Very good indeed, I usually avoid BBC dramas like the plague.

Dear All,

I thought Bill Nighy was rather miscast - too much foppish charm and not enough laid back intelligence.
The overwrought minister was overplayed.

...and they killed Gambon's character early - he acted the rest of the (starry) staff off the screen.

Both Mrs Noise & I dozed off before the end, a disappointing 5 form the noisy jury (except Gambon 9),

regards,
Jet

I thought it was great, thoroughly enjoyed it, one of the best pieces of drama on the BBC for a while smile

The screenplay was well written, snappy dialogue with no 'spoon-feeding' of information that is often evident in so much of today's TV. Hope it shows that programs don't need to pander to the lowest common denominator.

I'd love to see a sequel smile

Just noticed its on iPlayer - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0146fz0/Page...

Really enjoyed this too, some of the exchanges between Bill Nighy and Gambon were brilliant.

The director said in an interview recently that if Page Eight was a success, he would be up for making another three TV specials featuring Nighy’s character.

I thought it was excellently cast. Nighy's character was perfect: believeable, laid back (jazz & art), all overused charm, yet flawed.

However, despite all the good build-up I felt the end was a bit wishy washy, we were expecting something, a dramatic climax, a twist of somesort, all we got was the hero riding off into the sunset.

Also, the predictable girl bit happened, which cheapened what was a very grown up and clever production.

All in all though, very enjoyable, and I was impressed for most of it.

Really enjoyed this, wasn't sure about Ralph Fiennes as the PM though, he looked too much like an eastend gangster! Bill Nighy and Michael Gambon particularly were excellent though.

Totally agree. And the anticlimax bit too. But still very good. I liked his critique of his daughter's art.

The plot was weak and and love interest was a little tired and it never really got out of second gear, but it was saved by a great cast and some fine acting.

Good news smile

Thinking about it, I'd really like a prequel and sequel - would love to see more of Micheal Gambon's character...
