Kit for repairing small split in rear hood section?

Hello peeps,
Our Griff has a small (20mm) cut in the rear roof section where it has worn along a crease line. It's in the area above the velcro strip.
There appear to be various patch repair kits advertised on t'internet, but please can someone recommend one they've tried? It's not gaping open, so I think maybe just a patch on the inside would be neatest.
Should I stitch it up first?
