colour change car

I have a metalic red 29000 miles chimrea I want to correctily change it to solid red what will this do to the value ,it will be done in conjunction with chassis refurb

Why would it be "correct" to change to a solid colour, one of the great things about TVRs is that no two are the same and they could be ordered in any colour.

Red is a fairly safe colour anyway but given the choice of two equally good cars in solid or metallic red as a buyer I would pick the metallic one every time. If I were buying a classic Ferrari 250 GTO then I probably wouldn't

Colour schemes are all very much down to personal taste though and you should have what you like, that said, some of the "braver" ones may find less willing buyers when it comes to resale.

to answer your question:

firstly it'll cost you £4000 to do properly - that you'll never recoup

secondly, it wont affect the value either way - the logbook will still show red.

thirdly, it'll only look "newer" for as long as it takes to pick up some stone chips

I'm actually considering a full colour change myself, because my investment in the car already is such that it would never make sense to sell it (owes me roughly double its market value), so i might as well have my "dream" colour scheme. The additional issues in my case are that I would have to record a colour change with DVLA, which shows on the Reg doc (V5) and HPI (which might put people off if I did wish to sell it), also that I would want to do the hood, full interior, dash and carpets too - at a total cost of £7k+ and finally it's handy to keep a rare car (1 of 600 chim 500s i believe) as original as possible...

Red chimareas are probably harder to shift than more popular coloured ones but I would say a solid colour would make it even harder. So I think it will cost u to do it plus reduce the value. If the car is worth 10k and you spend 4k to paint it and you reduce it's value by a grand then why not sell it as is for 6k thus saving yourself money !

thanks for the imput I should have said I own abodyshop though that does not mean it will cost £0 I also think I will fit an ls1,also the car I really like and will never get is a ferrari 250 in bright red .It is very unlikly I could ever sell it for what it would cost but then what you want in life very rarly free any coments on the ls1 swap

thanks for the imput I should have said I own abodyshop though that does not mean it will cost £0 I also think I will fit an ls1,also the car I really like and will never get is a ferrari 250 in bright red .It is very unlikly I could ever sell it for what it would cost but then what you want in life very rarly free any coments on the ls1 swap

LS3 is now straightforward inc tremec 'box and exhaust, fitted for £13-£14k depending on 430/480bhp

My choice was to have my original 500 block & heads reworked by Jamie Rogers (Castle Race Engines) www.castle-automotive-performance.co.uk and on top of that a big rotrex centrifugal blower & intercooler kit from Colin & David harvey at www.sc-power.co.uk.

With a chassis refurb and a full respray your chim will be worth a lot more than one that has not had this done.
Depending on engine and interior.

If you are going down that route John i would Ls a Cerbera the chassis is much better Handling wise than the Chim i can give you a go of mine and you can see what i mean if you want. That is if you really want drop top motoring.
