Trek Utopia vs. Specialized Crosstrail vs. Scott Sportster..

need help choosing between the following:
1. Trek / Gary Fisher Dual Sport Utopia
2. Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc 2011
3. Scott Sportster 40
The bike is primarily for commuting, but needs to be able to handle some trail / light MTB duties.
I'm looking for front suspension and something fast(ish) for the roads.
Not bothered about disc brakes (especially if these make it more difficult to remove the front wheel for fitting to a car rack) and would happily sacrifice these for a better drivetrain etc.
On that basis, 3. looks the best bet, but seems fairly heavy. Or maybe there's something else that I've missed?
any thoughts / advice gratefully received!

Can't comment on the specifics of the bikes selected but removing a disc-braked wheel is arguably easier than a rim-braked wheel because you don't have to concern yourself abour quick release calipers for tyre clearance.
That said, why buy a bike transit solution that requires wheel removal anyway?

Essentially you are comparing pretty much the same bike, the manufacturers pitch at that price point in the hybrid sector.
personally i wouldnt bother with a suspension fork, especially not a 63mm suntour example. you will get at best 45mm of travel from that and it will be heavy and unresponsive. have a look at the Giant Rapid range which from memory run a rigid fork.
mechanical disc brakes are likely to be more effective than rim brakes on the same priced bikes, particualrly in the rain and they are easier to remove compared to rim brakes too.
