Copy and pasted from somewhere else I posted - any help on this would be greatly appeciated since the dealer appears to be utterly clueless.

---------------------------------------------------

Not sure how serious this is, but I'm guessing it's not good, based on the fact I've had 20VT engines for bloody years now and one has never made this noise!

In short, starting about 2 or 3 days ago, my turbo has started making what I can only describe as a high-pitched whine when under pressure. For example, if I stick my foot to the floor in 6th at low revs, I used to be able to do a good Darth Vader impression, but now I get "Shhhhhhhhh. Wheeeeeeeeeeee". Erm... or something like that anyway.

Any ideas what it could be, and what the damage is likely to be?

Not too sure about this as my experience was with slightly different vehicle, but I once had a 4.2TD Landcruiser which started to emit similar noise. I was convince turbo goosed, took it to dealer, turned out the down pipe was leaking and all that weird turbo noise was getting out (along with dieselly fumes).

Yeah, my guess was knarked turbo, leaky dump valve or leaky downpipe - problem is, I don't know how to sort any of those myself (and I shouldn't bloody have to, the car's under warranty), and the dealer seem completely unable to do anything with it.

I'm more worried I'm losing power than anything else!

It'll be the Bosch recirculating pressure relief valve (dump valve) a crappy plastic thing that costs £14 at Bosch but Audi will charge you £200 to fit. 10 mins with a screwdriver!.

The diaphram goes & manifold pressure blows through it.

It'll be changed under warranty shortly - I suspected it was this in the first place, but the dealer didn't seem convinced. If that works, I'll prolly stick a Forge one in there instead as I'm well aware of how useless the Bosch ones are.

Cheers peeps.
