Lindos town is a must see, but make sure you go early. It gets very busy with tourists by mid morning and if it is hot, first thing in the morning is a better time of day to climb up to the acropolis on the hill top.

Been to Rhodes a couple of times and there are a few things worth doing on the island (depending on what type of holiday you are after.

The market in the old town is quite interesting. If you hire a car and wish to explore the island a bit more, there is a really nice beach at Lindos (the hottest part of the island apparently), there is a butterfly sanctuary (which is a nice walk if nothing else), a place called seven springs which is quite nice. There is also a religious monument of a cross on the top of a mountain/large hill which is definitely worth a look. You can walk up the inside of the cross and stand inside the arms and get a fantastic view of the island (attached pic).

Sorry if that's all a bit vague, but it's a while since i was there. I'm sure locals, holiday reps, etc over there will be able to give you more info on these things.

Rhodes in lovely - my favourite holiday destination.

When we were there we hired a car for a week and this made our holiday. Things to see include Lindos and Rhodes old town - both are musts.

We went into Rhodes old town twice and the amount of old roman (or whatever) architecture is mind boggling. There are lots of lovely little cafes and places to eat.

Rhodes bay is also lovely.

The worst thing you can do is stay next to the pool for your whole stay!

Take a boat trip around the island, the coastline on the opposite side to the resorts is quite spectacular.

I've got a"what not to do" for you.
Don't upset the Mayor of Lindos.
He and his police back up will come a knocking and take your passport away.
It was 30 years ago, but I daren't go back just yet.
Good old 18-30s holidays.

Thanks for all the advice!

All noted down on our "to do list" and will have a browse on the internet this long weekend!

Going with the girlfriend but that shan't stop us doing much smile

Will take my driving license with me and see what's available out there!

Seems the old town is popular and definitely worth a drive around! Shan’t see be around the pool for long wink

As below, Lindos town is a must.

We go to Rhodes at least once every two years. We stay in Lindos, Just out of the main village up on the main road.

I'd recommend a walk around Lindos town, Try not to get lost hehe

Walk up the Acropolis, Either early Am or 5-7pm. I'd say early morning is best. Try not to fall off the edge into the sea smile

I'd also go to Rhodes town and explore the castle grounds etc. Just be careful where you eat there as it can be mega money. Also a nice harbour there to have a look at some decent machinery.
