I'm stuck in this poop hole on Friday for the a night and im stuck for ideas as to where to eat. I dont like Italian and my wife doesnt like Indian so that rules those out, we do like english, chinese and are willing to try anything.

No more than £50 a head plus wine and a taxi ride from the Reebok.

Any ideas?

£50 a head in Bolton will buy you the restaurant. Your probably going to be stuck with a generic chain i.e. Nandos.

I dont mind a good pub, not into the usual 3663 or brake crap though. But a good pub is a good pub smile

I wouldnt want to go to Nandos, frankie and bennies type stuff unless it was a last resort though.

It used to be famed for its food. I say "used to be" - I was thinking I went there a few years ago, but on reflection, it's actually 30yrs ago. wink So it may have changed a bit.

Tonker may well be able to point you in the right direction. Probably South, I would imagine. smile

The Yew Tree has always been pretty good, although I haven't eaten there for a while (not quite 30 years though smile ). Only problem may be that it's a 15-20 minute taxi ride from where you are staying; located about half way between Horwich and Chorley just off the old road parallel to the motorway.

You hail from 'the nearby city' yet deign to call Notlob a hole?

Dear me...

hehe

{Based where you are, I'd pop up the M61 to the intersection with the M65 and take the 2nd exit [Walton Summit] - bottom of the hill, 1st exit at the mini roundabout, boot it under the motorway tunnel for exceptional reverb then left and left again and lo! 'Sagar,' wherein you will find much spicy cuisine.}

10 minutes from El Reebok. wink

The Yew Tree looks good, nice menu. No decent wines though, but if they do ale ill be sorted biggrin

Bolton is a mess though, you just have to drive past to get a whiff of it lol

Yew Tree is a family regular. Food is very good, and the ale is pretty decent - I can't remember ever having a disappointing meal there.

Another good place near there is the Bay Horse in Heath Charnock - really good pub, and very impressive grub for the price.

Bolton isnt that bad really, Horwitch looked like a nice place to live.
