Cost of Sky Sport.
Discussion
Never payed to watch motor sport on TV in my life (apart from the license) but after watching F1 on TV for over 40yrs it looks as if I may be "forced" to,first WRC and now F1.Advice please from all of you with the latest gear. All I`m interested in is F1 and WRC,and the odd NASCAR.What is the cheapest way to watch this next year? not interested in Football,Cricket and all the other sports packages.OR??Is it technically possible (with the right gear) to watch FI or WRC next year with out paying Sky £35 a month??
If all the races are going to be shown on Sky Sports 1 then you will only need to buy that channel. However if they show some on Sky Sports 2 or 3 then you will need to pay an extra £8 a month for the full sports package (If you want to watch them all of course).
I expect there is a way of streaming the races from the internet for free.........

I have a suspicion that F1 will be shown on either Sky Sports 3 or 4, for two reasons:I expect there is a way of streaming the races from the internet for free.........
1. People who want to watch F1 will have no option but to buy the full Sports package
2. ONLY Sky will be able to show them in HD. Virgin Media customers do not have access to Sky Sports 3 & 4 in HD (1 & 2 are available in HD on Virgin Media, 3 & 4 are SD), and there's nothing Sky like to do more than p

My thoughts exactly - I would guess that there will be races on all the channels so that they get people paying the full package. Whatever people say about protesting and not watching - they will, and Sky know it. 1. People who want to watch F1 will have no option but to buy the full Sports package

If it's going to be on 1 or 2, you might as well get BT Vision if you only want the F1 as it's the cheapest way to get Sky Sports 1 and 2. I agree that this is unlikely as Sky will want to put it on a channel that only their direct subscribers can get. What's the chance they will set up a new Sky motorsports channel for this purpose, a bit like they did with Sky atlantic?
I'm not paying £30 extra a month to get it, which is how much it costs on Virgin TV. I also doubt the internet streaming will be any good for F1. Have tried watching F1 on iplayer on my TV (40") and the frame rate of these streams just doesn't seem quite good enough for something as fast moving as F1.
The only sensible option will be watching the disgrace that will be the BBC coverage.

Look, the BBC can not show the race "Live". That doesn't mean it couldn't show the whole race later that day. So not the end of the world?
I really hope they show the full race delayed and not just a 60min highlights programme. If it's highlights with say a 10 minute build up and qualifying report, and 10 mins of analysis at the end, you will end up with only 40 mins of track time.bmw535i said:

Want a bet?
On what? That people will pay for Sky so that they can see live F1? What will happen (because it has happened in every single instance where a formerlly free to air live sport has gone to Sky) is that overall viewing figures will plummet.

There is no doubt that there will be a minority of people who will pay to watch F1 on Sky. So, no bet there either.

So no bet at all then? What will happen (because it has happened in every single instance where a formerlly free to live air sport has gone to Sky) is that overall viewing figures will plummet.

I'm sure the viewing figures will fall, but Sky won't be worrying about that - they will have more customers because people will buy Sky sports just to be able to view F1.

Whether Sky consider the deal good or not will be for them to find out in due course. What is more important to me is what teh UK fans think and, at the end of the day, how the sport's sponsors will reconcile themselves to knowing that possibly 1/10 of the former UK TV audience will be watching the Sky races live.
