What point & click for £50

After some help from the more learned on here. I'm going travelling in SE Asia for 3 months this December and I'm after a cheap but decent digital for me to take with me to document my experiences.
Probably going to pick one up 2nd hand from ebay as I figure I'll get more bank for my buck that way. Bit of a novice when it comes to photography so don't really know where to start.

Cheap but decent. Oxymoron 
Top tip. Digital cameras move on so fast that your £50 may not buy anything decent (by 2011 standards). Think of investing £150 in a new one and you'll get something a lot better... in the meantime, you'll get some decent photos.

I see your point! However, I'm not really in the position to spend what would be a week's living costs out there on a camera. I'm saving frantically at the moment and it's not something I'd thought about really. I'm not expecting anything spectacular for the money, just simple point and shoot with ok looking photos coming out the other end. There obviously stuff at this budget and some will be better than others, just hoping people may have some experience with stuff at this end of the market.
Probably almost anything would do at that price point. Unless you can be sure of re-charging facilities I would get something that takes ordinary AA batteries should the need arise. What is your budget for memory cards and the means for backing up stuff whilst on the road? Also would something 'rugged' be worth considering?

So you're not taking a decent phone, and you want to take a really cheap (which will be poor quality) camera for your 3 month trip to South East Asia.
I'm sorry, I really have to ask, Why would you do that? I appreciate that you may have limited finances (I've been there), but for such a trip I'd suggest you have a way of getting decent memores captured in decent hi res. You may well regret it if you don't.

Try advertising on PH for some kind-hearted soul to flog you (or donate...?!) an old one they may have knocking about seeing as it's a special trip. Unfortunately, I've just given away an old P+S which would have been way better than anything you can get for 50 quid and would probably have considered donating it for a token amount + postage, but I may be in the minority!
Like Steve says, you're likely to regret it in the long run if you take a poor quality camera (albeit I appreciate your position ref lack of cash!)

It's nice to see that people are still capable of those kinds of acts of genorosity in this day and age! I can understand where everone is coming from on this and should have known better than asking for a suggestion for something cheap in a ph sub forum! Ok, so maybe £80-100 then for something 2nd hand and fairly compact? Like Steve says, you're likely to regret it in the long run if you take a poor quality camera (albeit I appreciate your position ref lack of cash!)

Actually, thinking about it, I'd probably take a punt on a Fleabay offering of a few years' old Panasonic Lumix. Don't chase for the biggest number of megapixels (if there's similar models of different sensor densities remember that squeezing more pixels in was always done for marketing purposes and not quality!!!). And my betting is the lower megapixels won't be popular and be cheaper.
With exception of some models having a slightly shoddy build quality and the plastic falling apart, Panasonic are the best combination of getting good glass and good electronics together and they generally get good reports.

Ok, so after a bit of searching around I've come across one of these manufacturer refurbed on eBay.

Now whilst the colour scheme is undoubtably a tad ghey (mine is in baby blue) will this be a decent buy at under £50? Think they were launched in 2008 and retail around £160 new.
