Good idea or just offensive?

My wing has gone milky and stripey which I believe is a common problem with carbon fibre.
Is there anything that can be done to restore it? I know painting it is one option but I like the carbon fibre look, particularly as it's the real thing. Is wrapping it in immitation carbon fibre just a bad, bad, bad thing to do? Would I burn in hell for eternity?

Rub some 3-in-1 oil on it. Mine comes up a treat !! ( oo-er missus ! )

Hi Bernhund , I had mine carbon wrapped it was cheaper than paint , is harder wearing than paint and it looks the same as carbon !!! In fact you cannot tell it's a wrapp !!!!!

Appreciate that fellas, I was concerned that wrapping carbon fibre with immitation carbon fibre was just wrong!

We have tried many things with the cloudy/stripey carbon wings. The reason they go cloudy is because the resin used in south Africa to make them is not UV protected. We have stripped a handfull now back to carbon, applied a better resin, and then laquered, and they nearly always look 80-90% better. Sometimes the cloudyness has even faded through to the material, which I experienced on one a few weeks ago so there is not alot you can do with those ones. But it would still look better than before.
Worst case is you would have to respray it body coloured or graphite etc.

I have a pretty good solution for the cloudy wing problem recommended to me by a body shop. Black t cut. Not only does it cut through the top layer of laquer leaving it perfectly smooth but it also dies the cloudy part black so they almost disappear. It's not perfect but it works very very well, I tried it on my spare wing. I now have a new carbon wing and I keep it polished to stop the sun getting to it and doing the same. I got the t cut from halfords.

The T cut certainly sounds like the right place to start, though the strip back and re coat is clearly going to give long term results. I can't imagine it's too cheap though! Cheers.

I used Meguiars Detailing Clay and then a good coat of polish.

Did the trick for me.

I think it all depends on how much you want to spend and how bad your wing has faded. Mine isn't too bad so it buffed up well, it may not have such a good effect if your wing is really bad. But if it doesn't work at least it's not cost you much to find out!

I had my wing re-laquered for £130. Still looks like new and that was 4 years ago.
