E10 fuel in TVR's
Discussion
I was advised by a well know TVR engine builder to avoid the Tesco stuff like the plague... Not being a petrochemical scientist myself I don't claim to know much about it so stick to VPower, generally paying through the nose for it, and hope it doesn't rot my pipes. Oh the joys of ownership and ignorance.

Why would petrol company's even consider changing fuels additive content, if it has the above mentioned properties on hoses & seals..?
Why will this affect us, and no other car..?
Not entirely sure I understand this..?
Its not additives as such just a higher concentration of ethanol. It will not be just our cars but others that were designed to run on normal unleaded. Most manufactures normally state a max 5% ethanol. Why will this affect us, and no other car..?

It is all down to being green.
Found this which explains it well. Not sure about the product it is advertising though.

Does anyone know if Shell V-Power contains bio fuel currently?
Matt, do a Google on "Shell V Power ethanol content" and some interesting articles will come up. Although possibly not good if you rely on the stuff. I guess I'll be getting Dom to replace all my fuel hoses with appropriate new technology in March then

Interesting reading. I would have thought that V-Power (99RON) being a premium fuel would be certified ethanol free. Although it would seem (unconfirmed) that V-Power currently in the UK would appear to be ethanol free at the moment there does not seem to be any commitment to keep it that way. Some countries sell a lower grade of V-Power (98RON) and this is listed as E5.

I've had a little bit more of a dig into this and if you look here some guys on the TR register were looking into this and have found that V-Power does contain ethanol but that the Esso super doesn't. Interesting.
It's not the petrol supplier's fault that more ethanol is being put into the fuel. Its an EU law that has come in to ensure that at least 10% (I think) of fuel comes from renewable energy sources. IE then have to do it. It will be a bit like when 4 star was phased out, normal fuel will be taken out of service bit by bit and you'll at some point presumably have to do some work to the engine to ensure it works with new fuel. It sucks but its just another part of owning an old car!

P.S. V-Power and Tesco Momentum both surpass the EN228 standard for octane, both RON & MON.
P.P.S. All gasolines are BLENDS of various components and the composition will therefore vary from batch to batch. The finished product nevertheless still has to meet the spec.
