I'm planning on going to Dublin for a few days in October as I fancy a bit of live music nightlife. I've never been there before and I'm going by myself, can anyone recommend some places to visit during the day, bars to go to at night and some decent places to eat?

Can i hop on this as well.

My question is can Dublin be done in a day?

Cheap flights give us over 12 hours there just for a day trip.

Worth it?

Kilmainham Jail is very interesting and The Guinness brewery but everybody does that. I believe it's Ireland's biggest tourist attraction. There is a bus in Dublin that goes round the main tourist attractions and you can just hop on and off at will.

I would say the Guinness factory is a must! The views are great from the top!

Course you can! Yep, the Guiness factory is a must I think. How about bars in the evening, can anyone recommend a few?

Go to Bruxelles, Harry Street. Its the bar with a statue of Phil Lynott outside, a good craic!

Also a trip to Dublin isn't complete without a visit to Copper faced jacks. Its not call slapper faced jacks for nothing wink Its bit out of the centre but worth it as its filled with locals not stag parties like temple bar!

I and my travelling companions were underwhelmed by the Guinness Brewery visit. We were expecting to see the brewery working but instead were wandering around an over-styled museum of static information. Nothing going on. No clanking bottles or mysterious Oompa-Loompas.

The views from the bar at the top were impressive, but it was very crowded.

In fact, although we enjoyed our 48 hours we were a bit underwhelmed by Dublin as a whole. The people were friendly and the Guinness was tasty but the shopping centre was exactly the same as the shopping centres we're used to seeing in the UK. Same shops. Same craic. Some very pretty women though, if that's your thing. Could recommend an excellent restaurant if you're there in the evening.

I did this for a bit of a laugh when I was out there.

You get driven around the streets in a WW2 DUKW vehicle, and then it goes water based near Windmill Stuios (where U" recorded a few albums).
Good laugh too biggrin

And did I mention drinking??

+1 for a bit of drinking.

It's a nice enough city centre, and compact so that you can see plenty of it on foot.

Not in danger of being threatened with a Michelin star, but go and have a look at charlies chinese takeaway if you've sunk a couple, it's great and handy for the pubs on Temple Bar. Or the Epicurean food court across the bridge from Temple Bar, a good choice of styles from mexican to greek. Again, good for soaking up a pint or two of the black stuff.

Same here... had much more memorable times (and nights out) in Belfast.
