Gallardo owners?

Not an owner as such, but went to milbrook to test drive one on saturday around the road course, and one mile straight.
Initial impresssions?
to be honest I never thought i'd hear myself say this but it was a bit...boring
tested both the manual and E-Gear version. The E-gear was very good - much better than the f1 box in the 360, manual a bit notchy, and the clutch pedal travel was ridiculous (although this may have been a 'one off').
My overriding impression was that while it gets everywhere bloody quickly, it does it with no drama whatsoever. the exhaust note was muted/non existent in the cabin. Power wise it certainly isn't lacking, but the way it puts it down just left me a little cold..
Handling was great, but not much fun, unfortunately there was only so far I could push it on the road circuit on a test drive, but it felt very planted - there was no way you could break traction unless you were trying VERY hard..
It was a bit like driving a big, fast Audi, which i suppose is essentially what it is!
In summary - I think as a daily driver it wold probably be great, it's not a pain to drive (unless you are tall (i'm 6'4 and was pretty uncomfortable after 10 mins) all very easy, no boomy exhaust note to tire you, and just all round very competent and (seemingly) well built. But to me, that's not what lambo's are about - they should be dramatic, exotic and great fun, I just didn't feel this one was.. The murcielago they had there on the other hand..............

Delivered December 8th - sold December 10th.
It's a great car (well it was for the 400 miles that I drove it).
Personally - I thought the driving position was good - the build was good - the brakes where just about bedded in when the car went - but where pretty awesome. The engine was awesome. The noise of the V10 under load was great - better then I remembered when I did the Autocar thang. Definately set up to understeer a bit (but then so is the 360, 911 turbo etc,).
I really liked the styling - I now it's a bit contraversial - but it grows on you - and I think the rear is the best - honest!
You could live with it every day (I'm told) - it's a bit more wieldy than a Murci or Diablo - and after a little blap - you'll see that the car shrinkwraps itself around you - so that you'll end up not being intimidated by it. And the visability is more than reasonable (for a Lambo!)
The interior was good (ignore the Audi jibes - the quality was top) - you do feel speacial.
It's a great car - but not for me.

You shouldn't be worried at all. They all come off the same production line and are all covered by the same European wide warranty. As was covered on the Porsche forum a few days ago dealers do not turn their noses up at Euro cars anymore and make no differential on the price. The only time a Euro car value can be problematic is when any history is difficult to trace which is only relevant on cars that much older.

I have whittled the new car choice down to 996 TT or Gallardo...looks like Sant Agata will prevail. I'm looking at a Black with red (imagine the Devils wheels) ...and this is the clincher...red calipers!
Will post pic's if anyone wants to check it out..I will certainly see if it is truly a daily driver.

im very tempted by the Gallardo- prefer it to a 360.
Problem is the price!! its priced far to high IMO it needs to be nearer to 996tt money. The only ones in the market now are speculators cars with a few hundred miles on at very near list.
I dont want to lose my shirt so will wait a while and watch realistic pricing arrive!

I've got a Gallardo in Australia. I've covered 7000kms in just over 3 months, but I don't use it as a daily driver - I just use it every other opportunity. I love the car, but I don't think it really is a daily driver. For one thing, the front is very low and I can't even get into my office car park. It is hard to reverse park into tight spaces too. No problems with comfort, general driveability etc, although it is very sensitive to the throttle with no flywheel effect and can shunt at low speed unless driven with care. Best features are power, handling, looks, rarity (here in Adelaide at least), gearchange (mine is e-gear), finish of bodywork, the sound when going hard. Every drive is an event to look forward to. "Do we need some milk, dear? I'll just pop out to get some. No really, it's no trouble."
To be honest it is one of the best cars out there…

Direction change is spot on.
Build quality is very very good…
People stop when they see it slinking down the road.

I'm very interested to drive one of these. The looks are growing on me (needs to be bought in the right colours) but I am now prepared to give it a chance.
The thing is the Murcielago is just sooo good. Apparently a 2wd SV/GT version of the big V12 is also on the way.. wooohoooooo!

On any given A or B road, no one will be able to get over a max speed in a GT2 of say 90mph..
We are talking average / good drivers…
To get more out of it you have be good at the wheel..
Take the same road, the Gallardo will dispatch it at 90 with no real drama. It would do well over 110.. on that road. And that in my opinion is the trick….
It is faster than the GT2, it has more drama than the GT2.. cause at the speed that things get hairy in the Lambo you will be doing serious speeds.
Four wheel drive in my opinion has higher limits and it takes more skill to trail brake, or four wheel drift…. You need to carry more speed/ upset it more to get it to go sideways…
When I drove it on the road, I felt it kept saying to me..’ is that all you have ?’

Seriously go drive the car.. the CS will seem brittle after the Gallardo..
People say the Gallardo is too grown up, but put it this way, if in you are in a CS or a Modena, you will not lose a vauxhall VX turbo unless you are going to hit 160mph.
I played around with a Scobbie (260bhp) on the motorway, and to be honest he sat on my tail all day. !!! If he was more committed he would have come past..
Yes I had 400 bhp to his 260, but there was only a limited amount of power I could deploy.
I needed more than the one lane to make some bends… he didn’t.
Now the Gallardo would have sailed past..
The Cs is not a lot quicker than the Modena, done several starts against the modena and the manual was quicker to 70mph.
The CS is just as nervous, okay it is 100kgs lighter but it is on the same dampers, with different springs, hardly impressive, the standard dampers are nothing to write home about.
It has good brakes but so has the Gallardo
The Gallardo dampers are miles better… the aerodynamics are better, the high speed stability is incredible…. 180mph… NO DRAMA. !!!
The CS has reasonable mechanical grip, errrr the Gallardo had loads more….
Plus it packs 100 bhp more, well don’t even look at the torque figures.
If you dig deep into the Gallardo you will be shocked..
If you dig deep into the CS / Modena it will get nervous.
But then again there is something like 7 years development difference between them so the Lambo ought to be better….
