Hear that sound? Its the noise of the internet breaking as billions of nerds like me sign on to report just one thing.

Maybe, just maybe this time he really is going to do it. I think we'll have to see if Prometheus sucks donkey balls before we make up our minds as to if this is going to be any good.

Still look on the bright side, it could have been Michael Bay or Zack Snyder.

Just received my bluray collectors edition in the post [/nerd]

I was about to agree and share your excitement but unless it's guaranteed to be it's equal or better I think Ridley et al should leave it well alone. It should remain a standalone piece of cinematic history

This.

I'm anticipating this prequel/sequel with very mixed feelings. Still no news if they will be using one of the K W Jeter books or maybe a new story. A know a screenplay was written based on the first Jeter book but this was apparently discarded some time ago.

Harrison Ford is 'rumoured' to be back on board reprising his role as Deckard too, which is interesting as he said in the past he hated filming Blade Runner.

I love that whole genre but very few science fiction films make the grade for me. I will either love it or absolutely hate it. One thing I would personally like is for the cast to be made up of relatively unknown actors and actresses.

Oh please be a prequel.
Why they can't do something new, its ridiculous. Iain M Banks or Warhammer 40k would be terrific.

Neuromancer, if it had been made ten years ago would have been an outstanding film. The trouble is, I fear its entire notion of "jacking in" would just appear too alien to what has transpired.

It's a terrible shame, because - man - what a story. "Stay. If your woman is a ghost she doesn't know it. And neither will you." Or summat.

There was considerable talk of something directed by Chris Cunningham some years back. But that's all died away. It would have been awesome.

I think William Gibson even wrote a screenplay for Neuromancer too, I seem to recall.

I've got Gibson's screenplay for Alien III too. Totally different to the final film, but that's another story.

Soldier is set after BladeRunner no? A new BR can't ever be as aweful as that but it should be left well alone.

I wouldn't like to see the blow torch and foot torture scene from the Kovacs book. Pretty horrific.
Alistair Reynolds wrote some amazing books, then it all went a bit wrong IMO.

I preferred Aliens to Alien, if he could do the same with Blade Runner that would be great. I'm thinking a Replicant combat squad storyline would do the job nicely.

Alistair Reynolds - Terminal World

One of the most enjoyable books I've read for a long time, the fact that his background is in physics and he worked for the European Space Agency shines through. The descriptions and meat that he puts on the bones of his world is up there with Pratchett for me. Would make a great film and 'steampunk' is very in right now isn't it?

I think the Register ran a survey for the greatest SiFi books that should be made into movies.

Player of Games got my vote (can you imagine the fun filmakers would have with that), but IIRC "Use of Weapons" walked it.

Just rereading UoW. By God it's good.

Am very very surprised no one has optioned any of his stuff (perhaps they have actually).
