Cyclo cross wheels on a road bike?
Discussion
Well, is there any reason I can't?
I guess they will weigh a bit more but it's an old steel Pug so I don't really need to worry about a few grammes.
Is this a good deal? http://www.parker-international.co.uk/16482/Campag...

there is no issue with fit or size but the khamsins wouldnt be my choice. they are only CX wheels by virtue of having better seals. i would go for something with a conventional spoke pattern if you want strength.
For £120 I would get these:

Mavic Open Pro rims are ultra-reliable and tiagra hubs are bombproof too... they should weigh about 1750g for the pair. some people dont like the look of 32 hole wheels now anything over 20 marks you out as a tourer but its just an image thing.

Really?
so if I bought that my 105 cassette would go on there no drama?
Other option is pay about £20 more for a 105 hub I guess?
They'd make good commuting wheels wouldn't they?
i'm always dubious of wacky spoke patterns. it seems odd (with my limited engineering knowledge) that a wheel designer would not spread the tension equally over the rim but bunch three spokes in a group. so if I bought that my 105 cassette would go on there no drama?

for smooth roads i am sure they are fine, for the pot holed roads of britain, i'd go with something else. break a spoke on one and i would imagine that wheel is a write-off.

I was talking about the open pro's dude...

So by putting cyclo-cross wheels/tyres on a road bike, would it be okay on towpaths/forest tracks etc?
So therefore a different option to getting a hybrid.
Thought I was going to get a hybrid but as it will mainly be for road use, I could just get a seperate set of cyclo-cross wheels/tyres.

Will a road bike be OK with CX wheels (same as road wheels!) and tyres? Will a road bike have sufficient clearance around the brakes/forks/stays for the wider CX tyres? Even if it does, whilst towpaths should be OK, forest tracks might clog up what's left...So therefore a different option to getting a hybrid.

If you do want both, get a CX bike, fit slicks and accept crap brakes.

As above you'll probably not have the clearance. On an old steel Pug frame it would be fine, on a modern aluminium frame it'll probably not work.So therefore a different option to getting a hybrid.
