Hi All,

I have a speed camera detector plugged in to the accessory power outlet in the center console storage compartment. All great except when I remove the key the and close/lock up the car, the detector remains on..... and on.. and on.... Never going off it seems.

Is the power in the outlet sockets available all the time. I thought there was a 15 minute battery saver??

I should try it in the fag socket to see if it makes any difference.

Anyone else with any similar experiences?

The glove box socket is live all the time (at least it was on my last 2 C5s). I use the centre console plug as it looks better - I use an extension cable which is routed to the floor on the drivers side and I unplug the detector from the extension cable.

When I say goodnight to the car I always check that the detector is unplugged !!!!!

My detector blew the cigarette lighter up!

This is a major pain as there is no switched accessory outlet or easily accessible switched circuit in Euro C5s (see previous thread on this forum "US/Euro Specification Differences C5"). You can pick up a switched supply from the fuse box under the carpet in the passenger footwell. For safety you need to make sure you tap into the right side of the fuse - this is easily checked by removing the fuse and testing with a voltmeter (or the old bulb on a wire routine). My suggestion would be to choose a "non-critical" circuit if possible - just in case!

All I can say is on my '91 Corvette, the fag-lighter socket will happily stay on even though everything else is shut off...

Twice now (the second time being met with a resounding DOH !) I've left my radar detector (Valentine 1 btw) on and came in the next day to a nice, flat battery...

So, I think as is stated, hard wire it into something that does turn off, and is non critical...
