We, me and 'er indoors, are considering St Lucia at the mid/end of Sept for a 10 day break.

Any info on deals or places to stay or to avoid would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

We stayed at Coco palm 4* room only. Do not believe reviews that say beach is shuttle bus away, actualy less than 5 min walk. Good bar/resturant near by. Do go on rum tour and virgin's ahoy tour. More character than almond resorts.

We've stayed several times at Jade Mountain - can't recommend highly enough. It shares beaches / facilities with Anse Chastenet which is also lovely. If your are more into the 'Sandals' style holiday - don't go to either Jade or Anse - it won't be your thing.

Not sure what you mean by 'Sandals' style holidays

Wife and I went to St. Lucia several years ago. We stayed at Windjammer Landings. Excellent comprehensive resort. Built like a village in a hillside so there was shuttle busses to phone up and get you to the beach and the several restaurants etc, which was very efficient. Has it's own dive shop etc by the beach so I hired fins before we went (more space for other items).

I seem to recall we signed up for the breakfast meal plan before we left the UK. This is a great idea as it really reduces the cost of breakfast and the range of food was awesome!

We had one memorable day out. We took the day trip to Union Island (small plane to get there) then on to a schooner to cruise , swim and snorkel around the Grenadine Islands etc, plus all drinks, and lunch. Expensive but a great trip. Mayreau was a fab small island...can I get a holiday there I wonder?

Some good restaurants in St. Lucia too. Can recommend especially the Coal Pot: despite it's name it's excellent, sited by the water's edge etc. Great for lunch as well as evenings. I think we went there 4 times! Can also recommend Froggie Jaques (near the Coal Pot), the Great House at Gros Islet, and the Buzz Bar at Rodney Bay.

Downsides? Most hotels are a distance from the main airport which is on the far south of the island, maybe an hour's travel but you do get to see some of the island. Other than some spectacular scenery, not much else to do, which suited us fine.
