Battery Flat

Hi All,

Recently I bought a TVR S2 V6 but if I leave the car for a few days parked the battery gets flat out.

It seems that the ligts in the dashboard ( beside the wheel ) the keeps on when I turn the car off.

Any ideas what could be the problem ? and if it will be an easy fix.

Can you be more specific, which light is staying on ?

Hi,
The ligts that keeps on are the indicators on the left hand side of the wheel, battery, indicators, hand brake light. I dont know if they have an specific name but since English is not my mothertongue I dont really know how to explain it better.

I got the car from Davewelly, he used to disconnect the battery so I think he never spotted the issue so he has adviced to do the same, but I prefer to have it sorted out anyway for peace of mind.

Obviously a wiring fault somewhere but could take a bit of sorting out, are you good with electrics ?

Sounds silly - but on my S3, you can switch the instrument lights on and off with one of the 3 rotary switches - have you checked all your switches are in the off position?

If that's not it - you have a short somewhere - probably an earth....

Im not an expert hehe but I can do some testing but I have a friend that could help if we knew where to start looking.

I did switch all completely to the left. Thats the corerct off position right ? Or its the middle one ?

You can leave the lights on with the ignition off, but from the sound of it some of the circuits supplied from the ignition are staying powered up when the ignition is switched off. That sounds like a more fundamental problem. I suggest disconnecting the plug between the ignition switch and the main loom to see whether any part of the ignition circuit is being powered from somewhere else.

....unless of course somebody has removed the connector and soldered the wires together (sorry, couldn't resist...)

To be serious, though, I would be looking at the ignition switch first - it sounds as if it has been rewired wrongly (perhaps to remove the yellow connector) or possibly, as you say, there's a short elsewhere and it's being back-fed through another component.

Whichever it is, I auggest the OP gets it fixed as soon as possible, and disconnects the battery in the meantime when leaving the car. If there's a short somewhere, then something's going to get hot, and hot wiring in fibreglass cars is bound to end in tears.

Thanks to all for all your tips. I'll check the ignition and wiring this weekend. Hopefully it will be an easy fix
