Apologies in advance for this as I am sure this must have been done to death on this board before but I can't find anything using the search.

My question is, is a rear wiper a "must have" or a "don't bother" thing on a 997 (edited - applies to all later 911's smile).

Supplementary question is does anyone know whether they can be fitted retrospectively and if so, for how much?

Thanks in advance.

i specced a 997 without and ran it quite comfortably without for 3 years. It also rains a lot in the pennines.

Can't answer for a 997 but assume same principle as 996 where I wouldn't say it's a must have but is very useful, especially to clear the rear screen when the car's been parked up in p***ing down rain!
Whilst your not going to pay any extra for a car fitted with a rear wiper, I would imagine fitting one retro is not going to be cheap (if it is possible).

Rear screen is very sharply raked, so it doesn't get "dirty" - I had wiper on previous 997 (rarely used) and no wiper on this one - IMO they aren't necessary?

If they are the same as on the Cayman they are not wash wipes just a wiper and as such I rejected it. Also think they ruin the look a bit

I wanted one on mine but went without. Definitely not necessary IMHO. Use RainX if you think it'll bother you...

I'm indifferent. If it's there, it's fine. If it's not there, same thing.

I never used the rear wiper so it will not be a must have spec item when we get our next porsche.

I used my rear wiper yesterday. If you only drive along fast A roads then it's probably not needed, but I needed to use it while driving in town yesterday in the rain.

For 'purity' - no rear wiper and definitely no sunroof. The 911 Coupe roofline, down through the rear screen is a design classic.

However, the rear wiper is useful, as water does sit on the rear screen and a wipe (when wet - no washer) will clear and clean it. Doubt if it is easy to retro-fit.
