Remote seatpost
Discussion
I ran a Maverick Speedball (original version of what is now the Crank Brothers Joplin 3) for 2 years and loved it. Now use a Rockshox Reverb which is much slicker in operation and doesn't have the same play at the saddle that the Joplin has. That said, I couldn't notice the play when riding and a friend is now riding with that post which is probably 4 years old now.
CRC have some refurbed Joplins at £90 which is cracking value (but allow £35 for the remote add on), but if you like to buy things just once, I'd get a RS Reverb.
They do make a difference to your riding if you teach yourself to use it. A few of my group have them and never use them, but I made an effort to drop it as soon as the trail points down or has any jumps or drops and it's now just second nature to me to drop it all the time, and I really miss it when on my other bike.

I've had a gravity dropper for a while too. It does have a bit of play around the saddle, but then again I am sitting 18 stone on it, and I really can't tell when riding it. It's also not completely service-free, but it's easy to fix if it does get a bit stuck.
Overall, it's amazing how much difference a couple of inches can make!

Well 6.2 miles (runkeeper app) of fire roads, single track and stupidly bumpy and boggy decents later I'm really happy with the reverb.
Smooth, tiny amounts of movement and easy to fit. I can't fault it really, although it would be nice if it was cheaper!
I'm still having to adjust my riding but it's much easier going down steep tracks with the seat out of the way, and climbing is nicer with the seat high.

I bought a reverb a few weeks ago, pricey but totally worth it. Best upgrade you can get IMO and its those short sections of trail where you get the most benefit: technical sections you'd otherwise avoid as its not worth stopping to lower the post and short uphill bits where you would normally stand up and mash the pedals cos you'll be just be stopping again to drop the post. I wouldn't like to go without one now.
