8-turbo Chevy engine anyone?
Discussion
Any comments on this 1957 Chevy with an octo-turbo setup?? He's probably the only one on his block with one..

Yeah, ok, so it's a bit ott, but check out the engineering and workmanship!! And check out the links to the other projects, like that superb MK1 Mustang..........
This is exactly why the US custom car and bike scene has the european 'pox power' stuff licked. I mean they have their 'rice racers' too, and the low-rider thing which I can't quite understand myself, but they also have this sort of thing going on. There is still a popular 'home build' custom culture as well as these high-dollar projects, and the local and mail-order speed shops provide all the bits you need. I realise that this sort of project isn't going to be cheap, even if the relative cost is lower in the US.
If you ever get to see the US version of Monster Garage you will see why the UK version is so naff, and if Orange County Choppers is coming to Sky you will see what a proper custom chopper is all about.
I only wish we could get that kind of attention to detail, quality and committment to a project here.......

I think it's horrible and a really poor way to go about it. He must have a source of cheap turbo's though
Is it perhaps the most effecient layout? Probably not. To me it is sort of like that project of building a jet engine in your shed to cool your beer - not the most rational way to make power but makes for a nice project and has a certain amount of "wow" factor. Just getting the thing to run properly must be a challenge in itself!

what about lag, surely these little feckers'd be on the case straight away
Not neccesarily, 1 exhaust port to 1 turbo as opposed to 4 ports and one turbo. try blowing your desktop fan around in a panting motion instead of a constant stream of air should give you an idea as to what i'm on about
It's usually a good idea to have a short manifold and then the turbo. That way you get high exhaust pressure. His turbos are so far away from the head there will be a pressure drop. It's a dumb idea. I thought of 4 turbo's mounted at the heads on 4 custom twin manifolds but decided that was a dumb idea and ditched it

You were probably going for max power or something similar. I would imagine his reasons for doing so were entirely different!

Quite right. I suspect he will have greater bragging rights down at the pub though
This guys plant must suck so much air the car's running in a vacuum . . . Or groundeffect maybe better . . .
Why do people waste time on this kinda nuttery? I'm no engineer but surely this can't result in a proper running engine? Saw this before.
And when you really want to rock the funky beat there's this:

I've driven one of those on the autobahn. I'm sure it's the fastest car over 100 I will drive until I get a go in an F1...
