Just had my first ever service on an 8 yr old LHD 993 C2 Coupe (that's not too say that it's the first ever service for the car, just the first since I've had it (I'm wary of making any unintentional double entendres after yestersday's "I've had a crap" thread....).

Total cost of £235 (inc VAT, parts & labour). No major replacements (new oil, filter, but that's about it). Done by a independent in Edinburgh called Brian Miller, who seems to have a good pedigree in Porsche garages.

This is the first service I've had to pay for (always been in a company car scheme before)...Does it sound like a fair price? I have to confess, it's a lot less than I was expecting....

Was it the major or minor serivce? - they vary alternatively. Sounds about right for a minor service, the major service includes things like spart plugs new oild everywhere (engine, brakes,etc),etc... (mined you that only cost me 390 pounds).

Minor....as far as I'm aware. At the moment, it's on 6 month servicing because of the warranty that came with the car.

Sounds OK to me.

My first service on the Lotus Carlton came to 2367.48p

Funny how you don't forget figures like that ;-)

That price is bang on for a small (12k miles) service. Expect to pay nearer £400 for a 24k miles one (which just gets your plugs changed too (I still find it hard to believe they only do plugs at those intervals but hey, what do I know!!)

CeeGee,

Where in Edinburgh is the garage you had the service done ???

I have always gone to the OPC and i'm now fairly sick of being constantly ripped off.

21/11/71: The garage is called Brian Miller Motors, and he's based in a small unit at the junction of Slateford Road/Lanark Road. If you know where the Landrover garage is, the small lane which leads up to his garage is on the opposite side of the road, actually in the middle of the traffic-light junction. Blink and you'll miss it. If you're coming into town, come onto on Slateford Road, Land Rover garage is on your right, go through the lights and then turn IMMEDIATELY left, before you go under the bridge.

He came recommended by a client of mine, who'd been using him to service his 993. I believe Brian used to be head mechanic at the Glenvaragill dealership, and he certainly knows his Porsches. He's had a 993 and is now on his 3rd Boxster. Seems like a genuine guy, and obviously a Porsche enthusiast, judging by the state of his workshop.

I had looked at using Glenvaragills for servicing but was told by other Porsche owners that they cost a fortune, and that Brian will do a similar, if not better job, for less than half the price. You'd don't get cups of coffee and comfy seats but, hey, if you're saving a couple of hundred pounds a go, who gives a stuff!

BTW, just got an estimate in for repairing the bump that someone gave my 993 last week: £1,307!!!!! Fairly shocked by that, no, it's floored me!!!! Whoever bumped the car, I spit on your grave!! Bds

Nah, 1500 quid was a clutch.

Turbos have been fine, although a mate of mine with an LC needed his rebuilding. (Which Turbo Technics allegedly failed to do correctly...)

Dom, don't worry mate, they'll need replacing like the rest of it soon...

It's only a matter of time before you can legally put it on a 2002 plate as a new car...

1500 for a clutch? That's ridiculous!

Heard a word of warning about the original old Audi Quattro's. When the centre bearing for the 4WD needs replacing it'll be around 1.5k. A gearbox weighs in at 6k allegedly too. Not too silly for a modern supercar, but a bit scary if you've just streched to a used £6k audi though!
