I'm thinking of taking the Mrs to Jersey or Guernsey for a long weekend at the end of september. After beaches, coastal scenery, twee little villages and good options for some nice food & drink.

Does anyone have any recommendations or good/bad experiences???

Jersey the better option imo - it's larger and there's more to do.

Lots of what you want - plus a vineyard, a lovely conservation based zoo - don't prejudge it btw - it's quite unique. Gorey castle is worth a visit - lots of pretty fishing villages and some good restaurants and hotels. I always avoid St Helier and stay further out to the west side - favourite hotel is The Atlantic overlooking St Ouens Bay - otherwise known as 5 mile beach.

Enjoy!

Not been to Guernsey but have been to Jersey several times.

Stayed at Golden Sands hotel a couple of times which is right on the beach and not bad value for money.

St Helier had/has a bit of problem with youths hanging around in the evening so have never stayed there.

Ransoms Garden Centre do suprisingly good food.

Lived on Jersey for 5mths, there is lots to do & it is a lovely place to visit. As already said, Gorey Castle is lovely (I stayed in a cottage in Gorey almost overlooking it), the Underground Hospital is a must. I found it easier to catch buses rather than try & drive, remember they have REALLY low speed limits.

Some great restaurants, beaches etc, the people are friendly, just watch your missus as jewellery etc can be cheaper over there...

thanks guys...
just booked ferry tickets and looking into hotels now! the Atlantic hotel looks nice, but it at the upper end of what I was hoping to pay. The golden sands is showing as full. I'll have a look for some other options, but might well end up with The Atlantic as it does look nice!
